Wanna be a celebrity? ;-)
Yahoo Message Number: 136244
I got an email this morning from a video producer:

My name is Kiran Malhotra, and I'm a producer currently casting for a new TLC show about the RV lifestyle.  In our show, we will document 3 or 4 different people who are involved in RV lifestyle and celebrate their nomadic living situations.  I would love to hear more about your story: your lifestyle, your goals, and what brought you to where you are now.  If this is something that interests you, please email me asap, as our deadline for casting is next week.
Would you also be willing to post our casting call on your site to get the word out to others in the RV community? I've included the text at the end of the this email.

Thanks so much for your time, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Best,

Kiran Malhotra Coordinating Producer Sharp Entertainment

I declined the invitation, but some folks here might want to participate, so here's the "casting call" that Malhotra asked me to post:

WARNING!! . . . Red Alert!

At our little airport (Minden, NV) a fire fighting tanker made an emergency landing with one main wheel not coming down into position. There was plenty of time to gather a crowd and fire trucks as the stricken tanker flew off fuel. I was waiting with my camera and got a video of the arrival. Aircraft ground looped, no one injured, lots of dust and bent metal.
KOLO News (Reno) interviewed me and I gave them my video. For a brief moment I was a star (okay, one more time).
Shortly thereafter I was contacted by a 'national news organization' who wanted to use my video and wanted to compensate me for it. I told them no need, they could have it for free. No, they insisted they wanted to pay me and sent me their standard 'release forms' via email. One of the forms asked for my bank account number (so they could pay me) and another, a 1099 needed a Social Security Number (for IRS purposes of course). SCAM!  I did email them back and told them that if they needed to pay me, they could send the money to my company (a corporation, so no need for the 1099 form) or otherwise they could simply donate my money to a charity. They finally figured out they weren't gonna sucker me and didn't respond back.

So, in dealing with the folks looking to do a show on RV's . . . keep all your 'this don't sound right' triggers on high alert and don't give them info that may put your ID or bank account in jeopardy.

Excellent point, Bumper! Anytime somebody asks for your bank account number, especially in combination with your Social Security number, you have a right to be extremely suspicious.

Thanks BumpeR for the heads up, sorry to hear about the tanker though, the fleet gets thinner with each of these.
I'll some time just jerk these folks around with short numbers and lots of questions, just for entertainment. Lots of scams out there so be careful.

This person has been all over the Internet.  There is currently a discussion on the Escapees Discussion Forums about it: http://www.rvnetwork.com/index.php?showtopic=102968 .  Sharp Entertainment is a legitimate producer...read post #7 at the above link to see what they're currently involved with, so I wouldn't be too worried about giving them personal information.  They will, after all, need it to pay you and report your earnings to the IRS and to send you a tax form at the end of the year.
Just a note about this program that they're trying to get off the ground: it's supposed to be a "reality-type" show, so the chances of it being a true reflection of the RV lifestyle is probably slim to none!

Like Amish Mafia?
I can just picture the opening scene: cue the 'Road Warrior' where Andy is driving along an empty stretch of road, with his trusty cat sitting next to him in the passenger seat.
Next, we see him eye the rear-view mirror to see not one, but two SOBs quickly gaining on his rear. As they catch up to Andy, one drives onto the oncoming side of the road, while the other actually goes off the road onto the shoulder.
As they pull up parallel to Skylark, Andy slams on his brakes in order to quickly decelerate. The two SOBs, who were getting ready to toss eggs at his RV instead end up hitting each other. Next, the camera pans down to where Andy is turning a knob that feeds liquid nitrogen to his engine.
As we see his head/neck slam back from the sudden acceleration, the camera does a quick cut to show his rear tires smoking from the burn out. The scene fades as we hear Andy comment off-camera that that will be the last time he waves a friendly greeting to opposing RVs...

Regan, LOL at the image you painted.  From the initial post on this thread, I had the impression this was to be another "reality" series.  I value the peace, quiet and great amount of solitude that is part of this lifestyle.  I shudder at the idea of being followed by cameras, shooting not for the peace but for the drama.
There is no amount they could pay to entice me to allow them into my home and my life.
