A Holiday Blessing

T'was the night before Christmas and in my RV "A Christmas Story" was on the TV.
Then up on my roof there arose such a clatter, I opened the hatch to see what was the matter.

And what to my wondering eyes should appear but an overweight sleigh pulled by 8 reindeer and a sprightly old fellow with hair and beard white, I thought it was Andy, come over by night.

I expected  a "Ho ho" but heard not a sound as he dropped through the hatch and made his way down to the floor, where around him he gazed at the undecorated inside of my Lazy Daze.

He turned to me then and asked with raised brow, "You sent me no list, and as I am here now I see no holiday preparation, no showing of joy.
Has the Spirit of Christmas departed the boy?"

"Not at all, Santa," I said with a start.
"the Joy of the Season lives on in my heart.
No stockings are hung; I don't need such.
Throughout the year I've been given so much.

Faithful service by Ann kept my checkbook full so my bank account balanced as I came to the Yule.
Mike and Lisa kept all running well from the innermost wiring to the outermost shell.

Alice took care to get back to me my repaired camera lens, so my camera could see the scenes of the west so open and grand presented before me, this wonderful land.

I stayed near friends, the new and the old.
Andrea sat next door and rode out the cold as a southern snowstorm, windy and white made the next day dawn remarkably bright.

John and Linda, and their labradoodle Sadie who wanted no more than to find a spot shady, while we hiked in the Tetons on warm summer days and viewed those grand peaks through a smoky haze.

Wallowas and Cascades, Glacier and Yellowstone, Tetons and Flaming Gorge, Colorado and Idaho, now southern New Mexico, where I rest from my 'labors', with Jan and James and Andy as neighbors.

I've truly been blessed with a wonderful year and I assure you, Santa, my heart bursts with cheer.
I sent you no list because I do not need much.
The care of my friends has blessed me so much."

He nodded and smiled, and he climbed to his sleigh then he clicked on the reins and the deer flew away.
I called out to him as he faded from sight "Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good night."

Thank you.
