on the subject of window screens

My poor '98 has the OLD style plastic clips. The factory no longer makes the upper clips. I do have spares of the lower ones, but they aren't interchangeable. In the course of taking them out to clean over the years, nearly all have become "un-installable". They just sort of hang in their slots, but aren't useable as  mobile/sliding screens anymore.

Has anyone ever replaced their old screens with the newer spring loaded ones used now? If so, how costly was it to do? Can the old screens be converted to use the spring clips, or must they be replaced totally?

--- Thermopane windows replaced the laminated glass windows beginning in 2003; I would think that the window channels of pre and post 2003 models would differ. I would think that screen fit/application would be affected by the window channel design, so I suggest calling the factory for the real scoop!
