We want to explore Salt Lake City for a couple of days.  We would appreciate suggestions of places to stay in that area, not in the city itself.  We have a toad and don't mind driving a little ways to get to the city.

Thank you,

You will do no better than the Salt Lake City KOA http://koa.com/campgrounds/salt-lake-city/
I have stayed there on numerous occasions and wouldn't think of anything else. It's close to downtown (Temple Square) and if you are going there to do research in the LDS Library you can call for a shuttle to and from the library, it's that easy. They also have a nice dog walk area way in the back.
Last time I was there I drove my toad up to the Golden Spike site at Promontory, UT. Very interesting!

Dorothy, have to agree with Steve.  KOA SLC best bet unless you want to drive up to Park City about 30+ miles away.  http://www.parkcityrvresort.com/

Hi Dorothy,
Many years ago, Jag and I camped (in a tent) at Cherry Hill RV Park.  We found it really nice.  We were even invited to pick the cherries on the trees at our campsite.  I do not know how it is now and, since we do not have an RV, I cannot vouch for it.  Just remember it was very nice and friendly.  It is located in Kaysville, near Ogden - about 17 miles north of SLC.  The website is

It now has a water park - great if you are bringing kids - not so great if you are not.

We overnighted in SLC back in 2004 on Antelope Island State Park.  Yes, an island on the great salt lake, just to the NW of SLC.
Was an interesting perspective, and is worth a night, even if you decide to go with KOA instead.

Would like to stay there again.

Dorothy, I live in Provo, about 45 minutes south of SLC. There are some great campgrounds in Utah county, namely Provo canyon. Nunn's Park has a campground, and is only a short walk from Bridal Veil Falls, which is worth coming to see. American Fork Canyon also has some great campgrounds if you'd like to spend a night or two 'roughing it'. Enjoy!

This is much more to our liking Tyler. We avoid private CG's whenever we can. We don't care to park cheek to jowl and pay north of $30. I see there are numerous Forest Service CG's, east and south east of SLC. Your note alerts us to county parks in the area plus Utah State Park.

Anyone know of the "perfect" Forest Service CG in the SLC area?

Almost 30 days without hookups. Life is good for us near Moab.

Besides Antelope Island, I've been fond of the NF sites built by the CCC along Logan Canyon, east of Logan along hwy 89.
