Re: On & Off Again Fluorescent Fixture Reply #25 – March 14, 2012, 02:28:21 pm Yahoo Message Number: 129145"I'll be interested to see how that works for ceiling lights." I have only two ceiling-mounted fluorescent fixtures: an original one in the rear lounge, and one in the kitchen that replaces the factory-installed anemic incandescent fixture. I may leave them "as is," since I hardly ever use them. The fluorescent fixtures I most often use are the ones mounted under cabinets (especially in the kitchen), and I plan to refit those with LED strips. The LED strip lights I've already installed were placed over the sink in the rear of my midbath's kitchen, where I felt there was inadequate light from the factory-installed fluorescent that straddles the sink and stove. I'm very happy with those. As Larry pointed out, the InspiredLEDs strips can be daisy-chained, so if two are not enough, you can easily add more. "I'm somewhat 'lucky' with our '83, since the ceiling fluorescents are surface mount" Yes, I wish Lazy Daze had used surface-mount fixtures instead of the Sunray ones that require a big rectangular cutout. The surface-mount ThinLite fluorescent fixture that I mounted on the kitchen ceiling back in 2006 actually looks better than the Sunray type, and requires only a 1/2" hole for the wires. But it's a moot point now--what LD really ought to be doing is switching from fluorescents to LED strip lights like the ones we've been discussing. They're small, they mount on the surface (so no cutouts are required, reducing labor costs), they use about a quarter of the power, and at least in theory, they should last for the life of the coach. Oh, and a pair of them costs the same or less than a 12V fluorescent fixture. If I were Steve Newton, I'd be using these right now.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/

We can only hope this trend continues.Chris

With a controller to adjust the color - not just warm or cool white, all the colors of the rainbow. That would be pleasing to the lighting freaks here. I might even get one for KoKo. Now what would you call such a rig? from beautiful downtown Van Horn, where I just ate the best flavored honeydew melon of my life.

Now what would you call such a rig? Actually, I've got that - sort of... Used to have some ambient lighting behind the top window valance, above where our TV sits. With the shade pulled down, it would give a gentle, low-intensity reflected glow behind the TV when watching at night. I recently replaced that incandescent lighting with RGB LED lighting to do the same thing. Using a little wireless remote, you can adjust for any light level and shade to fit the mood.Steve

Those panels have a broad-spectrum anti-reflection coating to allow ALL wavelengths of incident light to contribute to the output. You do not want to block UV, and many products could also damage the coating to reduce the transmission of even visible wavelengths.Steve
