Electric Blanket Question? SAFETY WARNING ABOUT ELECTRIC BLANKE February 12, 2012, 01:34:08 pm Yahoo Message Number: 128515Last year a doctor friend of Elizabeth's died in a fire at his home in Tarpon Springs, Florida that was caused by an electrical short in his 12-year old electric blanket. Over time the wires and wire insulation in the blanket itself become brittle and can break causing a hot spot or spark causing the blanket to ignite which happened in this case. The doctor was in the bathroom at the time and was quickly overcome by highly poisonous smoke from the burning bed. The fire quickly spread totally engulfing the very large home and destroying it. The local news media investigated the history of electric blanket safety and found, as a rule of thumb, that ALL electric blankets should be made electrically inoperable after TEN YEARS of use because of aging of the wires in the blanket. This is done by cutting off the electrical connection at the blanket. Then the blanket could still be used as a standard blanket. Now apply this scenario to a RV which can burn quite quickly and the danger increases. To be fore warned is to be forearmed! Mike[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
