Wrenches:

I am experiencing a heater problem I have never had before.  The heater in my 2005 LD 30" IB is stumping me, this weekend I needed the heater, I turned on the thermostat and the fan came on, the burner ignited but fluttered with an irregular sound.  The burner shut itself off and recycled, the same sound, fluttering, heat then shut off.  I suspected a spider web or a corrosive buildup on the burner or thermocouple.   Searching the unit from inside below the sink, I removed the ducting cover to find nothing accessible.  I went outside and could not find access to the burner assembly either.  I could find nothing in my LD manual regarding heater maintenance, I went to the manufacturer's paperwork, it said cleaning burner often and maintenance is needed.
My question for any of you, how do you access the burner to knock off any corrosion build up or where do you go to maintain the unit?  Where do you access the flame check window?  Is this something that requires the heater assembly to be removed?  Any comments will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brandon Lane

The burner is not accessible in a furnace without disassembling the heat exchanger - not recommended as a home project. However, spiders cannot easily get in, and are probably not the issue. First thing I would check is propane regulator pressure and flow (Do the stove burners work well, or does the flame ride off the burners, flame height drop if several are on, etc?). If that is ok, then the furnace valve, which IS accessible, may be clogged.

had a similar problem in a water heater. Turned out to be a spider had built a web inside the air tube feding the burner. Couldn't seee the web from the outside, only after removing the breather tube.
