Rio Grande Valley info needed...........I have been hearing some rec

horror stories about crime in the Mexican border towns in the Rio Grande Valley.  My wife and I planned to stay at one of the local RV parks and really wanted to visit one of the border towns but were wondering if it's even safe to do so now??? I have heard that Neuvo Progreso was supposed to be one of the safest towns to visit.  Any advice welcomed!!

Gene we are headed that way in a few weeks. We have zero concerns about safety. The more west of Brownsville, the safer it is. Progreso is fine, but you want to be out before dark. When the street vendors pack up, it's time you were across the border.

We've been in Mission, TX for a month now, about 2 miles from the Mexican border. Went to Nuevo Progreso a few weeks ago for the first time so Jim could have some dental work. Have been to 3 other border towns over the past few years and it is definitely the nicest. We felt perfectly safe, and have not heard of anyone having problems there. You will be amazed by the number of Americans walking across the bridge with you. As a matter of fact we're headed back there again today for his final dentist appointment.
