Off topic-- I need to convert an avi file to mov

I know there are lots of smart people who use iPods here (because I see the discussions about them!).
 Anyway, I have a 1.2 second .avi file I would like to convert to a .mov file to play on my iTouch (or as we call it, the iDrop, which is what we have done several times.). While I'm pretty sure Quicktime Pro would do it, I _don't_ want to buy anything to convert such a short file.
 I have a WinXp box, a Win 7 box and a linux box. Anybody have any ideas for a free converter?

Thanks, Joe. Have you tried  or downloaded this? Are you familiar with the product or website? It sounds good, but I would like a reference from a user before downloading, just to be sure it's legit.

No, I haven't had a need.  Plenty of info if you google what you are trying to do.

I needed to go from MOV to AVI, and it worked well on the videos I tried. I'm pleased it does allow some editing, too.

Thanks to all who answered. File is now converted.
 BTW, if you are wondering.... the file is of Jupiter's moon Io orbiting Jupiter, casting a (moving)shadow on the planet's surface. 800 images, 30 minutes real time compressed to about 2 seconds ( 7 frames).
