Interstate 8 Gila Bend to San Diego

Hi, anyone who would avoid Interstate 8(daytime) because of proximity to Mexico, delays/hassles at checkpoints, or other reasons?

* We frequently travel I-8 El Centro, CA to San Diego.  There's one check point going West to San Diego and sometimes one going East from San Diego.
 Unless you happen to be transporting illegals I would not worry about the Border Patrol.  We've never been stopped at a check point.
 There are 3 4,000ft passes El Centro to San Diego, 4181 the highest.  So do check the weather.
