Just a heads  up..
Overstock.com has the Barnes and Noble Nook Color refurb with full year warranty for 149.xx.
A couple of days ago there was a 10.00 off coupon but it seems to have expired or it may be because I had already used it that it wouldn't take a couple of minutes ago. The Nook color has a micro SD slot and will dual boot so you can try open Android software without even rooting the device.

Sale details here..

Juts my own opinions here: I've spent time with the Nook Color and the new $79 Kindle, and have looked at the specs of the new Kindle Fire. I found the Nook Color to be painfully sluggish in operation, and uncomfortably heavy for use as a reader (it weighs more than twice as much as a new Kindle). If your primary need is for an ereader, the $79 Kindle and $99 Kindle Touch are much better suited to the purpose.
And if you're looking for a 7" tablet computer, consider that Amazon's Kindle Fire, which has much faster hardware than the Nook Color, will ship in ten days. Given a choice between a $149 Nook Color--last year's product being closed out to make way for a better model--and a new $199 Kindle Fire, I know which way I'd go. :-)

Andy I have looked at all the units myself and have family members that have all but the Kindal Fire. The fire remains an unknown at this time. One thing that impresses me about the Nook Color is the way it plays you tube videos out of the box using flash. And by dual booting to a full Android operating system I can read my Amazon books as well as Barnes an Noble format without having to root or Jail Break the device. It may not be the best at anything but is very capable at many things. It is actually a better Tablet in many ways than many tablets. As far as the speed I can't respond to that except to say as a browser it seems to  me to be reasonably fast. Haven't really used it to read enough to speak to page turning ect. Actually as purely a ereader I would prefer an Eink reader. But this very Capable tablet for 3-4 hundred less than an Ipad and comes with flash. I will know more when mine arrives next week. They are all fantastic and amazing pieces of technology...

I own a 3rd Gen Kindle, I've bought and used a $79 kindle (gift), and I have a Fire on pre-order.  It's pretty clear now that the Kindle line will own the e-reader market and everything else will eventually be a dead end device.
If you decide to buy something else, just be aware.  The price would have to fantastic (almost free) for me to consider it.
Amazon just made the kindle an even better deal for prime members by introduction the Kindle Lending Library.

Well I am an Amazon Prime member and it has been one of the best things I ever bought, I haven't even used the movie rental  part of it. But the two day free shipping is great and Amazon actually lets you ship things where you want too instead of demanding everything be shipped to billing address.makes things much easier when traveling or gift shopping for a dispersed family.
As far as the Kindle taking over that doesn't really mater as Kindle app can be had on most  every device, including the The Barnes and Noble Nook Color I am buying.

"As far as the Kindle taking over that doesn't really mater as Kindle app can be had on most  every device, including the Barnes and Noble Nook Color I am buying."
Unfortunately, that's not quite true. While you can purchase and read Amazon books with the Kindle app on an iPad, iPhone, or Nook Color, there are a number of things a real Kindle can do that the Kindle app can't. These include emailing documents and books to your Kindle account--they will show up on Kindle devices, but not in the Kindle app--and using the aforementioned Kindle Lending Library, which also works only on Kindle devices, not in the Kindle app. And there are other limitations.
At least for now, non-Kindle devices running Kindle apps are second-class citizens. And in general, I'm inclined to agree with Rich: Amazon has made it clear that they will undercut all others on price, even though it means selling at a loss; and they offer a huge selection of content in books, music, and video that no other single firm can match.
Consider the video aspect alone. Netflix streaming video costs $96 a year and offers about 5,000 movie titles. Amazon Prime costs $79 a year and offers more than 11,000 movie and TV show titles. That's clearly a better deal. You can watch those 11,000 movies at no extra cost on your Kindle Fire. You can't watch them on your third-party tablet running the Kindle app, as far as I know.  And on top of that, as a Prime member you get no-extra-cost second-day shipping on all your Amazon orders, and other benefits as well, none of which Netflix can offer. All for less money.
If I had to bet on one company to dominate the ereader and small tablet fields (and I think they are two separate fields), I'd bet on Amazon. Anyone can put their name on inexpensive tablets, and plenty of companies have. Amazon is the only company outside of Apple that has the apps and content to make those tablets useful and desirable.
I'm afraid I've let the conversation stray pretty far from RVing here--my apologies! Let's all enjoy our tablets and get back on the road. :-)

Andy...
I appreciate your comments about the Kindle.  I recently downloaded a Kindle App for my IPOD and spent the afternoon reading "Treasure Island" on a flight today (free!)  Great fun!  I'm waiting for the final introduction of Kindle products this time around before making a selection.  Thanks for your input as I never would have considered buying a Kindle previously.  I have been saving for an IPad, but now I appreciate the benefits of an Ereader. For $79, it's a no brainer!  These new products are a perfect complement to the RVing lifestyle.

Best regards, David
