Servicing squeaking furnace fan in '85 LD..
Yahoo Message Number: 126194
Hi all.. So this evening I figured I'd fire up the furnace to ensure it was in working order prior to our upcoming trip next month.  The good news is that it works OK, but the bad news is that when it starts it's fairly squeaky with fan noise -- perhaps due to lack of regular use.  Without having the furnace apart, is the fan servicable in any way -- either for replacement or lubing the bearings?  I checked the LD Companion but did not see any reference to this issue..  It may turn out that more regular use might actually quiet the fan up -- perhaps I'll give it another try tomorrow.  Once I shutoff the thermostat the fan had quieted up and eventually shutoff...

If it is like our '83, the motor bearings can be cleaned and lubed, but since the motor drives both the circulation fan AND the combustion fan - with a pass-thru bushing into the combustion chamber, you should only do it yourself if you are comfortable with your abilities. You do not want to disturb the heat exchanger seal. The furnace is pretty easy to remove in our FL, and probably yours as well.

 I'd like to introduce you to another noisy furnace. This by way of Jim Melivns excellent Blog;

http://jimbosjourneys.com/
 If you'll go to his posting of Oct. 4th and scroll down to "Annual Maintenance" you will see what had to be done to his furnace. The picture shows Mike Sylvester (The RV Guy) in the process of removing and replacing Jim's furnace motor. Don't pay any attention to the fat guy in the background!
 Mike Sylvester is an ace RV service technician who the LD people attending the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta depend on to do all of their necessary work and maintenance. You may want to contact him regarding your 'squeeking' furnace. He's done a ton of work for me and many other LD owners.

Thanks for the links & blog reference.. Interesting reading!

I'll get to looking into this job at some point.. Not sure if I'll get to working on this prior to our trip as sealing up the rig is our #1 priority for now..  Thanks all!
