Winegard Carryout Mount

Hi All - We just bought a Winegard 1518 Carryout Satellite Antenna and I'm trying to figure out how to easily mount it on the roof.  It appears to me that the ladder mount that Winegard sells will not work with the Lazy Daze as the ladder is not vertical.  Does anyone have any brilliant ideas on how to mount this antenna without holes through the roof?  Somehow mount it on the roof railing?  Or maybe a vertical pole attached to the ladder in some way so the ladder mount could work?  Any ideas would be great.  Thanks much.

BTW - We are now fulltiming.  Our house is rented out and we're off to see the wizard for the next year or so.  Linda's finishing up a work contract and we're outta here at the end of October.  Yeee Hahhh.

If the ladder mount doesn't work, they do have the portable tripod mount, which may be better if you camp under trees a lot. The tripod allows you to find a hole, in the tree branches, where you can 'see' the satellite.
Myself, I would prefer to get an adapter plate and roof mount it and have a much stronger and better looking installation. I would worry about damaging a ladder-mount dish, too many places for tree branches to get under.

Your LD's roof already has many holes and screws going through it.
Take a look at the many vents, hand rails, hatches, solar panels, antennas and the A/C, they all penetrate the roof in some way.
Properly designed and executed, a roof-mounted Carryout should be water tight.

Hi Larry - Thanks for the thoughts.  The tripod is an option we've considered.  I think what I'm really after is a way to carry it while traveling without trying to figure out where to stash it and still be able to watch tv in the evening when we stop without having to do a big setup procedure.  I thought mounting it on the ladder mount would be great and for those times we need it away from obstructions we could dismount it and carry it out to a clear area.
Hmmmmm, lots of food for thought.

Additional thoughts welcome from all.  Thanks much, Carol.

I recall bumper using glue for the brackets for his solar panels. I'm guessing that technique would also work well for mounting brackets for a satellite TV antenna. Another possibility is using mounting tapes like the 3M exterior mounting tape and similar products. Several brackets would provide considerable holding power and be easy to install without adding any holes. The brackets could be aluminum angle for easy fabricating.

You are right, the hardware i purchased wouldn't work on the slant ladder we have. I had to have an "upright" ladder fabricated that bolted onto the existing ladder. I looks kind of funny, but doesn't interfer with the use of the ladder onto the roof, and it is easy to un-mount the satellite when you needs to move it out into open sky for reception.

I can send you pics...??

Actually the year i traveled I never had to unmount it...was always able to get the end of the RV clear of over hanging vegetation enought to receive.

I LOVED it....also good to know it can be used with either Dish or Direct, tho it works best with Direct due to the single satellite feed. I have Dish now, and need to reset the internal settings for Dish, and will need to remember that when trying to pre-set my recordings, to know which satellite it will pull the program from. I had to manually turn to those as the time it took the winegard to 'find' the correct sat. often meant the next program didn't get recorded.
