Anyone know the rough front axle weight of a mid '80's 22' LD? October 07, 2011, 06:41:22 pm Yahoo Message Number: 125809So I have the LD parked in our driveway, straight in but our driveway is on an incline and it'd be nice to be able to raise the front-end using the RV equivalent of those drive-up ramps used when working on your car but I'm thinking the front-end of our LD is probably over-weight for our pair of ramps good for your average car..Perhaps my best bet would be to fabricate my own set from wood -- solid wood with the proper angle to get the LD to be more or less level and allow the fridge to run.. Any other options I'm missing? Unfortunately I do not have any of those fancy leveling systems some of you have on the newer LD's..TIA!

Needless to say, chock your rear wheels to prevent rolling.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/

Expect the actual weight to be close to the maximum weight. At some point, weight the front and rear axles so the tire pressure can be set and to make sure the load is evenly balanced, side to side, without either axle being overloaded.Larry

Any other options I'm missing? There is a kind of spirit level with calibrations for leveling. One on the driver's door and one athwartships.I made some nice ramps from 2x6 planks. Here's a sketch. I sized mine to fit one of the outside cabinets.______ _x____\_____ ___x_\_____ _____x_____\Mine are individual pieces. There needs to be some way to keep the steps from sliding apart. The way I made mine, there's a key design that fits pieces together. At the x's in the sketch.John

When I got home, I checked the car ramps I've got and they were the same one I linked to earlier and there was a sticker on them indicating the max load -- 4000lb as a pair or 8000 GVWR.I checked the sticker on the door plate that LD put there back in '85 and it said the front axle is 3900lb so I guess I'm right near the limit of the ramps but they do in fact work just fine -- the rig is raised up to be pretty close to level -- enough to allow the fridge to operate I believe...I might end up making the 2x6 derived ramps regardless as that would allow better control over the leveling as these current ramps are probably a few inches off from where things would be more or less perfectly level.-- Rick

Easy to use and you can use as many or few as necessary. Just be sure if you use them on the back that they are under both sets of rear tires. I think there are 6 or 8 in a set. Betty JEan
