Yahoo West GTG March 23-25, 2012 Morro Bay State Park
Yahoo Message Number: 125803
After all the excitement we had with last year's tsunami, the Yahoo West Board of Advisers is once again proud to announce the weekend of March 23-25, 2012 as the Spring 2012 Yahoo West GTG.
We will be returning again to Morro Bay State Park in Morro Bay, Ca.
http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=594>
Cal Parks has change their reservation policy for Morro Bay. All standard sites will be on a first come, first serve policy, after January 3, 2012. Standard sites will only be reservable from the Memorial Day through the Labor Day holidays The hookup sites are still available for reservations if you need power or are nervous about showing up without an reservation.
http://www.reserveamerica.com/campgroundDetails.do?subTabIndex=0&contractCode=c\a&parkCode=morr> As of today, there are 25 hookup sites available. If you want a hookup site, get your reservation now, the limited number of sites book early.
Morro Bay State Park is mostly empty on weekdays, during March, so showing up on Thursday, or earlier, should guarantee you a site. Since there are no reservations, once you have a site, it's yours until you check out.
My wife and I will arrive either Wednesday or Thursday evening.
Sorry for this change but the State Parks system is in disarray due to the budget problems. There is talk about many of the parks operations being transferred to local control or contracted out, similar to the National Forest camps.
We have looked at many other sites and Morro Bay is the best centrally located camp that allows members from both the Northern and Southern California to attend. Out of state visitors are very welcomed to attend.
The Morro Bay area has a world of things to do ranging from walking, and shopping to wine tasting and kayaking in the bay.
Bird watchers will be awarded with sightings of dozens of varieties.
There is a nice, moderately priced restaurant, The Bayside Café, located on site at the State Park Marina and overlooks the bay. It is located across the street from the campground and is a good place for both lunch and dinner.
Plan on happy hour each night and a potluck on Friday and Saturday nights.
We usually do our "All things LD" event on Saturday afternoon and are always looking for knowledgeable LD owners to give a talk or presentation. Any volunteers? More on this as we get closer to the GTG.

All LDs are welcome.
If you have questions, just ask.
If you plan on attending, please email me.

See you there.

It's less than a month until the annual Morro Bay GTG See the earlier announcement here.

Several members have expressed concerns about not getting a site due to the 'first come, first served' policy of Morro Bay SP.
The parks usage has declined steeply with the increased camping fees.
I talked with the Park's information employee, a few days ago, and found out that they have closed the campground's rear loops, due to poor attendance. When the front loop fills, they open the rear loops.
I was assured that spaces would most likely be plentiful in March.
We plan on arriving Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.
Many forum members are planning on arriving early in the week. I recommend that they buy their sites daily and move to a rear loop if and when they open.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Our annual Yahoo West GTG is less than two weeks away, in Morro Bay.
Joan Taylor checked the Park out yesterday(Saturday)and found it to have plenty of empty sites so getting a spot, in two weeks, should not be a problem.  Thanks Joan!

Schedule Thursday, March 22  Free day - Dinner on your own.

Friday,   March 11  Free day,  Happy hour/Potluck at 5:00pm
Saturday, March 23  Free morning, afternoon LD activities- see below Happy hour/ Potluck 5:00pm.
Saturday morning from 10:00 to noon will be an "Open house" for those who wish to participate.
LD owners love to tour other LDs so leave your door open, if your rig is available for viewing.
Saturday afternoon, at 1:00pm, we will have question and answer session. Some of this groups experienced LD specialists will be available for questions and whatever else we come up with pertaining to LDs.
I'm open to ideas.
The potlucks have been moved up an hour from last year due to how quickly it cools in the late afternoon.  Among this group there are a variety of food life-styles so please try to keep your food contributions on the healthier side to provide everyone with a good selection.
Feel free to bring whatever libations you please.

-Please make sure to bring folding chairs and fire wood.
-Folding tables and lanterns are appreciated.
-Dogs are welcome as long as they are on leashes and are well behaved. State Park regulations are in effect.
-We will decide where to have the potlucks once we get situated. Morro Bay is a difference experience every year.
Morro Bay and vicinity is a wonderful place with activities for everyone. Hiking from the campground will lead you to peaks, bird watching and into town..
Next to the campground is the State Park marina which contains a kayak rental stand, the Natural History Museum and the Bay Cafe, a good place for lunch or dinner (it was a favorite of Jack Lalanne)
http://www.slostateparks.com/natural_history_museum/default.asp> Your campground pass grants free admission to the museum.
http://morrobaysbest.com/dining/bayside_cafe.htm> The bay itself is my main attraction and I plan on getting out on the water.
In town, the Embarcadero has many shops and restaurants to explore as well as great views to enjoy. With a toad, you can explore nearby spots including Los Osos, Morro Rock and Montana De Oro State Park.
Los Osos Elfin Forest
