Re: Towing rules in California Reply #26 – October 03, 2011, 07:15:10 pm Yahoo Message Number: 125705I agree. But the unwritten rule I followed since 1967 is you can drive 7 mph over the limit with low risk of a ticket unless you are driving in some other manner to bring yourself to the attention of a CHIP. No ticket yet. The rule 55 mph applies to trucks, too. When was the last time you saw them cruising at 55 mph?best, paulThe CA road sign that says "All Vehicles When Towing 55 MPH Maximum" isQuotequite clear! ;-)[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

In some congested areas, it's hard to go slower without holding up traffic. I do not want to tow any faster than 62 since the mileage really starts dropping when driving faster.Larry
Re: The Banks System Reply #28 – October 04, 2011, 11:37:19 am Yahoo Message Number: 125723I installed a partial Banks system on my 97 rig about 4 years ago, essentially the headers only. It made quite a bit of difference with the motor, since the early V10 has about 50 horsepower or so less than the current versions. You might get a 10-20 horsepower boost by installing a free-flowing intake system from this outfit - http://afepower.com/shop/details_new.php?partno=54-10542.I installed it when I did the headers. Quite robust and trouble-free.Along with the intake, I would ditch the current muffler setup and install a less restrictive muffler from these guys - http://www.magnaflow.com/04sound/04trucks.aspKeep in mind that your rig will NOT be quite as quiet as it is now, but you should be able to test out the sound when you have the muffler installed. The exhaust guys should be able to help you out there. Doing these two things first may make enough difference in your motor to avoid the LARGER expense of a Banks install.Good LuckChuck Myers 97RB Skye @Hartford, IA[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

It tops out at an elevation of 8138. No challenge there!!! If you want to test your engines abilities try Hyw 120, the Tioga Pass road, between Lee Vining and the entrance to Yosemite Nat. Park. Tioga Pass if just short of 10,000' at 9,945' and most of that gain is within the last six miles.Steve S. Lazy Bones & Jiggs

We will keep the Banks as an option after more reasrch on TPS figuresLydia Lydia, despite the warnings, we drove Ebbetts pass E to W a couple of years ago in 30'towing Honda Accord . I won't do it again. On one hairpin turn into a huge grade, I didn't think I would make it up. Live and learn.Chris

Andnot RV accessible --- If you don't as yet have a copy of (the western edition of) "The Mountain Directory", it's a very valuable resource for all RVers who travel in the west. (There's an eastern edition, also.) Amazon offers the best deal. Monitor and Ebbetts are "RV Acessible"; I've driven both (both ways) several times, but I have a 24' and don't tow. Ebbetts is definitely the more "challenging", and for a 30' with a toad, not fun. It's narrower on some stretches and has quite a few more pretty steep grades and hairpin curves than Monitor, which is pretty mild.Joan

When I looked at K&N. The catalog implied a housing kit for an '06. No bare filters listed as a direct replacement after '02. All of those prior year filters are the same number. The K&N also looks like the filter supplied with the Banks system. I rather clean a more expensive reusable one than chuckng these others into a landfill. Lydia

After two bad experiences with K&Ns (found dirt inside the intake manifolds), I'm sticking with premium paper filters, the type Ford decided was best filtering medium for a long engine life. It is very difficult to out engineer any major auto manufacturer. All of our vehicles use the stock cleaners. Considering how few miles are put on the average MH per year, the cost of replacing Factory type air-cleaners, every two or three years, is miniscule, compared to all the other operating costs.Larry

YMMV. I'll stick with OEM Motorcraft paper air filters; about $11.00 through Rock Auto. I clean my air filter frequently and replace it every second or third oil change (3000 mile interval), depending on its condition.Joan
