Compact toaster oven

When I lived in a condo, I used my toaster oven almost daily to toast sandwiches, melt cheese, and reheat leftovers (especially pizza, which tends to get soggy in a microwave oven). I had to give that up when I went full-time in Gertie (22' twin/king), because there just wasn't room for it.
After I got Skylark (26.5' midbath) and had more living space, I went shopping for the smallest toaster oven I could find. Well, it *looked* small in the store, but when I brought it home, it magically became twice as large as soon as I walked in the door. ;-) I tried several locations, but no matter where I put it, it was just too big. I ended up giving it away.
Several years went by. Then a few weeks ago my friend Judie showed me her Hamilton-Beach "Toastation." It's a combination popup toaster and toaster oven that's only *seven inches* from front to back--little more than half the depth of most toaster ovens. Yet it has a 6" x 9" baking tray that can hold two individual pizzas, and a 1.5" wide toaster slot on top that can accommodate anything from two slices of bread to a split bagel. (A lever selects between oven and popup toaster modes.)
The Toastation fits very nicely on the kitchen counter next to my stove, in an area that I wasn't really using because it's back by the window. (Judie keeps hers under the dinette table, on a shelf her husband built.) It's the perfect size for a small- to medium-sized RV. I'm delighted with mine. :-) Here's a link:

I'm very intrigued by your description of this "Toastation". You say it measures *seven inches* front to back, yet the description given on the Amazon site says; 17.1" by 9.6" by 9".
And you say you've placed it "next to my stove". Looking at the photo on your web site, is this the location where your bread maker used to sit, between the stove and the sink???
I have a four slice toaster sitting there but I cannot imagine that I'd be able to locate this Toastation there if, as they say, it's 17" long.

Please comment.

One of Amazon's dirty little secrets is that the dimensions given in their product descriptions are frequently wrong. (I've even seen some cases where the dimensions listed are those of the shipping box rather than the product!)
In any case, I measured Judie's Toastation with a ruler before ordering mine, and it's definitely 7" deep at the bottom, tapering to 6" at the top. (Those sizes don't include the oven door's handle, which protrudes about 1.75".)
"Looking at the photo on your web site, is this the location where your bread maker used to sit, between the stove and the sink?"

You mean this picture?

Yes, exactly--back against the window.
"I have a four slice toaster sitting there but I cannot imagine that I'd be able to locate this Toastation there if, as they say, it's 17" long."
Amazon is wrong again: it's 15" wide, plus an inch for the toaster handle on the right side. Combine that with the 7" front-to-back measurement, and it fits with inches to spare. (Note that I'm talking about the two-slice Toastation here; there is also a four-slice version, but it's larger.)

Andy,
Now a technical question on the toastation:  how long is the electrical cord?

"how long is the electrical cord?"
Short: only two feet. I actually like it that way, because it's just the right length to reach the outlets above the counter where I keep it, and I don't have a lot of slack to deal with. But if you had it in a different location, you might need to use an extension cord. It draws 1,300 watts--less than the microwave oven, but not by much--so you'd need a heavy-duty extension cord.

That is indeed short.....I need 28" to reach my outlet.  :-(   I'll keep on the hunt for a small toaster with a longer cord....prefering not to use ext.cords.

It does take a lot of power..

Thanks for the info!

Excellent description! Even though I have the 30'IB I think our kitchen counter tops are pretty much the same.
I especially appreciate the photos you sent, thanks. The Toastation looks like something I'd rather have than that 'Cube' of a four slice toaster. Since I now travel alone I rarely make four slices of anything.

Just my opinion here, Helen: choosing a toaster based on its cord length is kind of like choosing an RV based on the length of its shore power cord. ;-) A short cord can easily be dealt with. Any hardware store will sell you a 6' heavy-duty extension cord that's sized for safe use with air conditioners and other power-hungry items.
I'm in favor of getting an appliance that fits your needs and then adding an extension cord if necessary, rather than getting a product that doesn't do what you really want just because it has a long cord.

"It does take a lot of power."
True. Then again, so does a coffeemaker (900-1,200W), microwave oven (1,500W), hair dryer (1,200-1,600W), or any other heating appliance. Like those, a toaster oven will be useful mainly in shore-power or generator-power situations... but it sure is nice to have!

I've been using one of these at home for the last two years. It sees daily use and is still working fine. I just put it out in the LD and took a couple of pictures

We too, like so many others, have used a folding toaster for decades, toasting thousands of pieces of bread and bagels, losing no counter space in the process.

For years, this group has promoted the use of propane, not electricity, to produce heat.
A plug-in toaster is useless for dry camping  and there is no way I'm starting the generator to make toast.
Sorry Ted, it doesn't make coffee.

Thanks!   I hadn't come up with where to store a toaster, and this will fit much better!

Since this thread was 1st posted I have been reading reviews on the Toastation. Of the dozens of reviews and accompaning photos I have not seen any that were not shown with a wire rack. Even the Hamilton-Beach video shows the wire rack.
Yet in your photograph I can clearly see an aluminum tray (sitting on the wire rack???). Is the tray something you have added?

Didn't have to. :-) A crumb tray and a 6" x 9" baking tray are included with the Toastation, as with most toaster ovens. The baking tray sits on the wire rack, as you surmised.
