MaxAir II roof vent. Causing roof damage.
Yahoo Message Number: 117472
The MaxAir II roof vent cover is hinged on one side and secured with two cotter keys on the other, allowing it to be opened for cleaning.
While cleaning the roof & vent covers, I noticed the leading edge of the vent cover had rubbed off the paint and was wearing into the aluminum roof.
While the camper is not in motion, there is a decent gap between the vent cover and the roof. My guess, is that during highway driving, the force of the wind passing over the vent is forcing the leading edge into contact with the roof. The resulting vibration from the wind is causing the damage.
To eliminate this issue going forward, I took a 12" piece of vinyl tube I had in my junk pile, split it open then simply slipped it over the front edge of the vent cover where it contacts the roof. No more hard plastic to metal contact. For good measure, I took a small piece of Eternabond and covered the worn spot on the roof.
Another point of contact with the roof was the tips of the bat wing antenna. Bending the tips ever so slightly helps, but as with the vent covers, I suspect the contact comes with highway driving. I used the same fix as with the vent covers.
There are limitless ways to deal with this issue. I know you'll find a better way, but this method seems to work OK.
Whether this issue applies to other brand vents, I couldn't begin to guess. I quick inspection will answer that.
