I have a 1988 LD Front Lounge with the above original converter/charger....my Fantastic Vent (installed where the swamp cooler used to be) stopped working....Itraced the line back to the fuse panel on the Magnetek.....the fan would would go on and off as I played with the fuse...I took out the fuse...put a new one in....loosened the screw that holds in the red wire that goes to this fuse....pulled out the wire....recrimped and twisted the end and reinserted and tightened down the screw that holds it in....I also tightened the clips that the fuse slides into....even after ALL this the fan goes on and off if I just barely touch the fuse.....isnt there a corresponding wire on the BACK of the fuse panel for each fuse(to complete the circuit)..I am counting on your collective expertise to help me determine hoe to get to the Back of the fuse panel board......Thom

Just a thought, Thom: have you tried contact cleaner on the fuse? Wipe or spray on a small amount, then push the fuse in and out a few times to wipe the contacts. Can't hurt.

Thom,

Are there any spare fuse locations you can move that wire to?  If you disconnect the battery, you should be able to pull that fuse board out and look behind it.  Does yours still use the glass type fuses?  Do any other DC items get intermittent when you wiggle their fuses?  Sounds like the screw post is losing contact with the circuit card.
My 85 has the glass type fuses and .5 amp or so charger.  I have been thinking about changing the entire mess out to a new unit with more state of the art electronics.  I believe they are made by Parallax now.  The 7300 series.

Thom,

Not sure I'd recommend using emery paper. Oft times the contacts are plated and emery paper is more abrasive than what's called for. An eraser does a credible job, one intended for ink is a bit more abrasive if there's significant corrosion. Follow that by cleaning with contact cleaner or denatured alcohol on a clean cloth, paper towel, or Q-tip.

....I did not try contact cleaner...but I did use fine emery cloth on the fuse blades and got them shiny as well as run the emery cloth

Bumper....thanks....I already used the emery paper before I had a chance to read your response....I did use very fine emery paper...I kn ow what you mean....I once used emery paper to clean the contacts on the inside of a distributor cap....screwed that up!!!  Not sure how I would get the eraser inside the VERY small opening that the ATC fuse blades push into......Thom

Ramon ....yes I do have empty fuse locations I can try.....Mine has the ATC blade fuses and charges at 3 amps (trickle)....but my question remains....there are two screws on the fuse board...I assume these are the ones to remove to get to the back of the board?  Thom --- In lifewithalazydazerv@yahoogroups.com, "Ramon P"  w

Thom..  sounds like we have the exact same converter.  In newer models, the 2 screws are removed to take the panel off and I am sure its the same for the 6300 but by all means make sure the battery and solar panels if any are disconnected.  The  pos and neg large wires  and a charge line at center top of the board might need to be removed as well but you might be able to tilt the board over enough to get a peak behind it.  One of those links I sent you had just the board for $25 US..  not sure what that would equate to for your area.

Let us know how it turns out.
