Real beds in 26.5 MB

In the nearly 7 years we have owned our 26.5 MB, Bert and I have never found a comfortable sleeping arrangement.  Now we have one.  We both felt claustrophobic in the overhead bunk. When the couches were made up into two beds, we found them to be too narrow and lumpy.  We then pushed the two couches together to make a large bed and bought a king sized piece of memory foam which weighed a ton.  While this was more comfortable, after a while we missed having that nice rear seating area.  So Bert went to work.  He ripped out both couches and built boxes for bed frames.  We went to a local company and had custom twin bed mattresses made.  They are standard twin width (39") and the appropriate length for each side of the RV.  They were relatively cheap at $100 each.  The bed boxes have hinged doors so there is extra storage for bedding below the beds.  Bert also built a nightstand between the two beds.  We love it.  We have real beds at night.  We retained the back board and back cushions from the couches, so we can make the beds into daybeds or couches during the day.  The weight is actually less than having that humongous memory foam mattress back there.  I have posted some photos.  I tried to do a link.  Hope it worked.

Bert did a beautiful job! :-)
But I'm curious. It's not obvious to me why one couldn't have accomplished the same thing with less effort by simply sliding out the couches partway, removing the seat cushions, and using the couch bases as bed frames for custom mattresses.
Can you elaborate on why the couches had to be removed completely and replaced with custom-built boxes?

That is absolutely beautiful. Looks so much more comfortable.

"We found making twin beds with the couches with a small makeshift nightstand meant the beds were too narrow."
Seems to me that since the couches can be slid out until they meet in the middle, they can be made as wide as you like. Certainly they can be made as wide as the beds shown in your photos.
"Moreover, they were hard and lumpy. Even the memory foam did not help."
But when you say "hard and lumpy," you're talking about the factory-supplied seat cushions. My question in my previous post was this: why couldn't you pull the couch bases out as far as you like, *get rid* of the seat cushions, and replace them with the same custom-made mattresses you used on your homebuilt bed boxes?
In other words, the standard couch bases can be made just as wide as your bed boxes. The standard couch cushions can be replaced with mattresses. So what's the advantage of ripping out the couches and replacing them with bed boxes the same size and shape?
I feel as if I must be overlooking something obvious here, because I know Bert went to a lot of trouble to do what he did... but I still don't get why it was necessary.

"Increased storage underneath? Just a thought."
And a good thought, Brenda. :-) While the space under the standard couches is accessible from outside the coach, replacing them with dedicated bed boxes would allow you to increase the space and make it accessible from inside.

We have lots of extra storage under the beds.  Bert made hinged doors to access the storage area.
