Seems the Jeeps are the only ones that get the emission mention and CARB EO#. Did not see one for the Chevy small block that mention emissions legal. My friends have mentioned what Ken said.... if you put FI on the small block, it would be more efficient than the carb versions out there yet they don't have an approved FI kit. It is really dumb.Ramon

So unless things have changed since I was growing up there, to be completely compliant, emissions equipment should match the motor Ken, I believe you are 100% correct from what I read on the DMV website and in speaking with friends. My boss has a Cobra kit car that I believe has a 90's engine/chassis and he is held by that years engine requirements. I forget if he has to smog or not. I will ask him.
Re: Bought an Oldie Today Reply #28 – May 27, 2010, 11:54:01 pm Yahoo Message Number: 112971I agree. It is dumb. With one of those Howell systems or another like it, you can wipe out all the bandaid approaches that they used in the 70s and 80s to meet emissions. You should have seen the pile of vacuum switches and various other devices that I took off that thing. I'm building a 57 Chevy pickup with a 327 V8, and it will probably have TBI as well. I am lucky to live in a place that doesn't inspect right now. The thing is, these engines are running cleaner than ever with fuel injection anyway.
