NH considers repealing campsite tax
Yahoo Message Number: 110915
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- New Hampshire lawmakers are considering repealing a 9 percent tax on campsites that took effect last July.
The House and Senate vote Wednesday on separate bills that would eliminate the tax enacted to help pay for state spending.
Campgrounds were added to the state's tax on hotel rooms and restaurant meals. The tax, which went into effect July 1, applies to recreational-vehicle and tent sites.
Supporters argue basic tent sites are assessed very little tax. But opponents say the tax will drive away campers, which could put campground owners out of business.
