Volunteering this summer - any programs for RVers youknow of?
Yahoo Message Number: 110674
Hi, after reading the article in "highways" magazine about RVers and volunteering opportunities, I contacted a number of placed for myself and my children.  The organizations in the article have had an overwhelming response from that article, so they are unable to use us.  These include Habitat for Humanity and the Pioneer Playhouse.  I am writing to the National Parks Service, but wondered if anyone out there had any other leads.  Thank you.  Dawn Davies

Also, has anyone used an Onan remote start switch different than the Onan recommended one and had it work out all right?  Thx.

Don't forget USFS campgrounds, BLM campgrounds, state parks, national and state wildlife services, etc.  They are all crying for volunteers.

Dawn, Two questions you need to answer 1st: 1) how long can you stay? (a week, a month, 3 months?) and 2) how far are you willing to travel? I know of a place

Dawn, now is the time to get applications into the NPS, USFS, BLM and the rest.  Most of these places review their applications and fill positions for the summer during February/March time period.  I spent 3 years working the summers for the USFS in Idaho, had a great time, but they had my paperwork signed and returned by March/April every year.  For the last couple of years, work for the NPS at Yellowstone, and, again, they are in the process of filling all of the positions now.  If you are serious about working this summer, you should spend the next few days downloading application and getting them mailed or faxed back so that your name can be considered.  Also, some places are difficult to get your foot in the door, such as Yellowstone, while others really have to shake the bush to get their positions filled.  Good Luck!

This may not be the sort of thing you're thinking of, but someone might be able to help. This group transports rescue dogs to foster families and no-kill shelters - if you're traveling, perhaps you'd consider picking up a "hitchhiker"...

Dawn,
If you are a Christian, there are all kinds of opportunities to volunteer. We have worked several times at the Wycliffe Bible Translators headquarters
