'02 MB A/C leak
Yahoo Message Number: 110503
Moved my MB outside.  It rained.  Drizzle from roof air on to kitchen floor.  Took off outside cover, (cracked and split) could not find any pooled water.  Took off inside cover.  Some water still trapped in cover but I could find no wet spots up inside around roof joint or anywhere else.  Anyone else had a leak here and might tell me where to look?

The air conditioner opening can allow leakage to enter the interior even if it is leaking in elsewhere. You looked for dampness or problems between the unit and roof interface, but did not mention if you looked around the ceiling half of the sandwich. Examine if there is dampness at some point where the ceiling panel meets the framing. If the leak is elsewhere, it will leak down to the ceiling, then flow to the lowest opening to escape. With the weight of the AC unit, there is usually a minute roof depression at that point, making it a logical point of exit for accumulating moisture.

Roger, This also happened to my '02 MB. Here is what I did; First, I replaced the cover. If they are cracked they will leak. I tried to patch it but the patch just works itself loose after the sun bakes it. After all, 7 years of life in the sun has pretty much cooked these covers anyway.
Second thing is to carefully tighten the bolts (from the inside) that hold the AC unit to the roof. The gasket tends to dry our over time and a slight tightening will sometimes be all that is necessary to stop a small leak. If that doesn't work there are replacement gaskets available from the manufacturer.

A couple of things to check.
Remove all of the plastic A/C interior trim to see where the water is entering.
There are 1/4" bolts at the front and back of the unit that secure the A/C to the roof. Make sure the nuts are slightly snug; do not over tighten.
You can usually tell the general direction of the leak by looking to see if the front or the rear of the A/C's framing is wet.
The A/C's gasket seldom goes bad or leaks. LD glues them down with globs of polyurethane.

Thanks for the thoughtful answers.  That is why I am so happy to be a part of the LD family.  I keep her in the barn where it is warm and dry and I think this is the first time in a long time she has been out in the rain.  I have pressure washed the roof many times and not had any leaks.  I have a new A/C cover on order.  I did not know about the bolts holding the unit down, I will check those.  Where is the evap condensate drain?  The bottom of the "case" on the roof side is full of slots so that I assume water can run out.  It did not even occur to me to check the rest of the ceiling through the light fixtures or small holes.  I will do that as soon as I get home.
