Bing Maps- Birdseye View - ultra cool and useful

Just sharing- this is the greatest thing ever!
 When you look up campgrounds, with the Birds Eye view, you can see exact campers on the ground.  It is even *better* than satelite view.
 I think Birds Eye view is only on Bing Maps, not Google Maps.  (correct me if I'm wrong- I know you will!  :) )

Here's how you do it:
 Go to http://www.bing.com/maps/ (just type "bingmaps.com" in your address bar)
 Just copy and paste the address or park name in the white box by the word "Bing."

 That's a NYC campground example- we're headed to the NE and Atlantic Canada this summer too.
 Zoom in close on the map - get centered over your location - Bird's eye view is only for closeups.

Now go to the top of your map and click on:

Aerial > Birds Eye
 Look how COOL that is!!  You can zoom in and out a little.  Look how you can read the signs on buildings!  Wow- so much better than satelite!
 I think Birds Eye view is just amazing.  I feel like I'm in a helicopter.
 Enjoy this tool for your campground searches- see how big the sites are, how long or close together, note the area around it, see the walk to the metro, etc.

OK. Also on Google Earth.
However, these are more detailed pictures.
 Tessa, I checked our house. It shows KoKo in the driveway. How can be? KoKo is in Texas.

Don, it isn't real time. Both Bing and Google use satellite pictures, which can be several years old. Street level pictures are taken from vans hired to drive down streets taking photos.

 Google Maps has about the same level of detail as Bing. And with the free Google Earth program (which shares Google Maps' database), you can not only see it from a low angle, you CAN fly over the terrain, in ways Bing can't touch. If you haven't tried Google Earth, you'll really love it. It's even available on the iPod Touch and iPhone for free! :-)

 These photos aren't up to the minute--they aren't even up to the month! Google and Bing stitch together their databases from a mosaic of aerial and satellite photos taken by various companies at various times over the past few years.

Yes, I previously used Google Maps, but the ability to *helicopter* around on Bing is just too cool!
 And I do love Google Earth.  The ability to go underwater and into space blew my mind, but the program took a loooong time to load on my computer.  I do need to try it again, though- good reminder.
 Google Maps "Street Level" view is very neat also, but I only enjoy turning

No, no, that's not a question about sewer hoses or washout tools.
 I believe that some carbon based life forms move between parallel universes. So maybe KoKo could be in two places at once? Perhaps her energy level exceeds the threshold of detectability in Alabama, but not in Texas, since everything is so spread out here?

That's true...these are not real-time satellite views.
 We've been using Bing Map's Birdseye View for quite some time now.  In one current photograph we look at, there's clearly a big building in the background which looks like a car wash from what we can see of the sign on the building.  However, if you look at the area on any of the satellite maps (Google, Bing, etc.), it just shows an empty lot.

What's really neat about the Birdseye view, if you haven't already discovered it, is that you can rotate the picture and see different sides of the object you're looking at!
