2010 changes - heat strip
Yahoo Message Number: 109804
I disagree with most of the comments about the heat strip.  I use both a 1200 watt electric radiant heater and the heat strip.  The combination works well.  I have my radiant heater running all the time at night.  It is not quite enough to maintain a 70 deg coach temp., so I have the heat strip set to 70, and it will come on occasionally, maintaining the heat just where I want it.

My furnace is also on, set at 62.  If it is REALLY cold (well below freezing) the furnace will come on in addition to the other two sources.  That is rare, though.  I spent 2 days at 32 or below outside during a snowstorm at Caballo Lake, NM, and the furnace never came on.  All my heat came from the two electrical sources.

Would I be happier if the heat strip was robust enough to keep the interior warm all by itself?  Yes, but the fact that it cannot do so does not mean it is worthless.  Like so many other things, it is a tool.  Use it within its limits and it is useful.  Expect more, and you will be disappointed.
