We want to install extend-a-stay (or equivalent) because we live in our LD and we stay on our own lot for extended periods.  It is designed to go between the coach and regulator.  If I do that and use 2 tanks with an auto switching regulator, is it OK for the propane to go through 2 regulators?  Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Best case, installing two regulators "in series" (propane would have to go through both regulators) would result in a severely restricted propane flow.
Worst case there'd be no flow at all (i.e. if the first regulator was set to a slightly lower pressure than the second). Since I've never tried hooking two up in series, the is just a best guess - - it won't work (g).

I'm with Bumper...I don't think it will work.
My coach has a regulator on the propane tank for a portable barbeque. It is designed for use with bbq's without a regulator. I tried using my portable bbq with its own built in regulator and it would not work, not enough pressure.

I don't know the answer to your technical question, but even if it's possible, having the portable tank on an auto switching regulator defeats the Extend-A-Stay's purpose.
The purpose of the Extend-A-Stay is to keep you from having to move your motorhome each time the propane tank becomes empty.  Once the portable tank becomes empty, you can switch to your onboard propane tank while you take the portable tank to be filled.  Hook it back up when you return and switch the Extend-A-Stay to run off your portable tank again.
If you had the portable tank on an auto switching regulator, then when it was empty, it would automatically switch to the onboard propane tank.
Unless you are very disciplined, and check the auto change over regulator every single day, you may miss that change and not realize you're running off your onboard tank until it's almost empty, necessitating packing up and unhooking everything to move the motorhome.

We ordered last week and were given a May delivery estimate.  We're hoping early May.

While I was camp-hosting I went to the local propane dealer and he sold me a hose with one end that hooks to the external tank and the other end hooks to the on-board tank. It worked just fine for me. I guess the drawback is that the external tank is 'filling' the on-board tank (it really doesn't) and you have no indications of how much propane is left. In my case the Forest Service brought me a huge tank that I probably only used half of it in 3 months..

Here are some pictures of the setup: http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k55/budster59/PropaneTank.jpg http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k55/budster59/PropaneTank2.jpg

The Extend-A-Stay is designed to connect directly to a free standing propane tank and the valve itself  must be installed between the internal tank and the existing regulator. You can have both tanks on sumultaeniously but I always turned the built in tank off when we were parked in one location for extended periods. That way, you can always run on you bult in tank while getting the portable tank refilled. I had one on earlier RV and have one now that I plan to install on our LD.
