Roof top heat/air

During our latest trip to San Ysidro I tried the ceiling Heater /air conditioner. When I slide the thermostat to warmer it was very sticky. I didn't get any heat. If I spray something onto the thermostat contact area to clean them, would that possibly fix the problem? If so, what would that something be? Any body have that problem? Be well. Dale.

What do you mean by "ceiling Heater/airconditioner"?  Do you mean the heat strip which is part of the air conditioner?  A/Cs as old as yours usually weren't connected to a wall-mounted thermostat. The thermostat usually controls the furnace (heater).  Can you give us more information/be more descriptive.

Chris, Yes, I mean the heat strip which is connected to the air conditioner. On the controls of the A/C (not on the wall) there is a sliding thermostat. It may never have been used

"I need to know what would be the best solution to spray on the area to clean up the contacts."
We discussed contact cleaners a few weeks ago. Short answer: DeoxIT from Caig Laboratories.

Ah, that we did. Sounds like the best idea to me . Thanks for being there Andy. Soon I will get the bugs out and also get smarter, I promise. Be well. Dale.

"I assume you would suggest the contact cleaner rather than the general cleaner?"
There are really only two kinds to be concerned with. Regular DeoxIT is intended to clean and preserve old, corroded contacts. DeoxIT Gold is meant to be applied to new contacts, to keep them from oxidizing. I find regular DeoxIT most useful.
The DeoxIT products look costly if you consider them on a cost-per-gram basis, but as I mentioned not long ago, a very small amount goes a long way, so in use they're actually pretty inexpensive.
