Hoping to make it there this year...I see that route 395 is the 'best', with 95S 2nd, and 99 [ugh!!] shown third on google maps.

Do any of you have any feed back on taking 395? If it's LD friendly I'd sure like to take the trip that way!

Also, anyone else here going ?

CA 395 is a fine road and easy for any vehicle. Don't know what direction you're approaching from, but 395 is the only north-south route to the west of DV. If you find yourself on 99, you'll have to transition over to 395 anyway.

Where is your starting point?  While 395 is a fine road for any size rig, I'm not sure I'd want to drive it in the winter, if it meant going over Conway Summit which is over 8,000' in elevation.  If you're traveling south of there, say from Bishop, south, then I'd just keep an eye on the weather.

Hi Gini, 395 is indeed a wonderful road to travel, but not necessarily this time of year.  It sounds like you'll be traveling from the north?  At the northern end, about the only open road West to East is Highway 80; other passes are probably closed by now.  If you're starting around Reno, you should be OK, but the first thing I'd do is contact CalTrans on road conditions, especially at higher elevations.  Snow closures are common this time of year.
That said, I'm not familiar with 95, and 99 is not at all bad unless it's socked in with tuley fog.  Coming from the central coast, I usually catch 99 around Bakersfield then get on 395 into the park.

Depending on your arrival, will probably see you there!

How does a person find out about these group trips. I'm thinking it sounds like fun and like something I would enjoy doing if I knew when and where they were.

Dale, keep reading this forum, message by message.  Most all the group trips are discussed/announced here before they happen.

Hwy 50 is open, as is 44. Not sure about 88, but it probably is too. Here in Minden (south of Reno), we're expecting 2-4" on the valley floor overnight.
'Cept where I live - - since I'm in the shadow of Lake Tahoe, we usually get a bit more due to lake effect.

Yes, plans are shaping up for my attendance also. However, in order to avoid any chance of a snow encounter, I'll be going south on I-5 to Bakersfield, stopping over at the Orange Grove RV Park, and thence over Tehachapi, meeting 395 at Kramer Junction. Then north to Lone Pine where I'll overnight at Boulder Creed RV before taking 136/190 into the park. Be aware that there is a good climb on 190 about 10 or so miles east of 395, but it's not something to avoid if your rig is in good condition (worse in hot weather).
I'll be at the Orange Grove the nite of the 27th. The oranges should be just about right by then (if they aren't already gone).
