Taping and/or caulking

We have some cracking in the caulking on the vertical seams in the back corners of our 1997 24' T/K LD.  What's best way to reseal?  Will it work if Eterna Bond tape is put over the seams without removing the old caulk?  Can a thin bead of new caulk be put over the old caulk to fill the cracking and then apply Eterna Bond tape?  Or is it best to take off the trim moulding (corner bead) clean/scrape off the old caulk, clean with alcohol and apply new caulk and tape?  Enjoy the forum as a relative newby.  JB

You can find these threads by using the message board archives (NOT the Yahoo search function; it's useless); the archives are accessed from the "searchable archives" link on the home page of the message board.  Using the search term "end cap separation" will bring up plenty of reading material!
I cleaned and "sealed" and re-caulked one of the end caps (the other never had a problem) on my 2003 a few times; the edges would always lift again.  I gave up and had the factory re-seal the thing with their currently-used adhesive; so far, it's still stuck! A factory re-seal is *not* an inexpensive process, so depending on the "degree of separation", you might want to try a few of the techniques/products mentioned in the posts.  Acording to Steve, there's little or no danger of leakage if the end cap separates; they *trowel* caulk on the seams, and end caps are primarily cosmetic.

Personally, I would not use Eternabond on a surface that is visible from the ground...roofs, yes, surfaces that you'll see everyday, no.  YMMV.

As Joan said, do a search for "end cap separation."

Thanks muchly to Joan and others who responded to my query about caulking, etc.  The key words were "end cap separation", and I did do the search in the archives.  John Boles
