Wheel squeak

Hi Judie; Quite likely it is just the wheel cover squeaking. I had this happen, with the exact same symptoms you describe, a few years ago. The two fake  lug nuts hold the cover on at the hub, but just press the outside edge against the wheel. As the wheel rotates, even steel will flex a little, as the  tire rotates. This flexing is rubbing the cover, and the cover resonates or  just amplifies the sound. Upon inspection you'll see some rust spots where  the cover has worn through the paint. I think I remember putting a little grease  on the tabs sticking out of the cover to cut down the noise level.
Hope this is all it is. Ron and Bluebelle a '99  TKB

Yep, the first thing to do is to take the wheel cover off.  If the noise goes away, it's just the cover shifting.  If the noise is still there, it could be related to the brakes or bearing.
When we were in the Maritimes in 2008, I thought we had a wheel bearing going bad.  But the noise went away when I removed the wheel cover.  I was careful to get it properly aligned when I put it back on and it hasn't made a sound since.
