about Dish, waiver, converter questions etc.

Right now, my almost-ex is going to move into the house--we are trying to figure out if we can agreeably share the existing Dish setup. That would mean not needing the waiver I know. however he has an HDTV now, [I don't]...and there is an additional charge per month for it, plus he wants to keep one plain vanilla [no DVR] as well as the HD DVR...

I have a 501 DVR on lease from Dish. I am looking at whether or not it would be better for me to just start over w/the waiver and the applicable DNS  service for both coasts, since I have no idea where I'll be.

Spent most of yesterday afternoon researching, and as is the case more and more, I came away more confused than when I started. Getting old sucks...grin!

Thanks for the info on the Dish Pal plus DVR...that sounds like it would answer a lot of my needs. Good to know they've worked out some of the bugs. Now, once the above is settled, I can safely just install it!

Gini, a lot would depend on whether or not you want to watch network programming.
You can always sign up for your "locals" which both you and your ex will be able to watch on your respective TVs.  However, YOU will lose those locals once you leave the spot beam where they are broadcast.  Now, that may not be a big deal for you if you'll always be in an area where you can raise your batwing antenna and pull in the locals from whatever current location you're in.
If it were ME, I'd want to make the break with my ex as clean as possible, so I would sign up for my own account.  That way, I could order whatever package I wanted, and if I wanted DNS, I could sign the RV waiver with All American Direct (for Dish Network).  If you try and share the account and if your ex will control the account as it now stands, whatever changes he makes will also affect you (like, what if he drops the locals, or signs up for all the XXX-rated channels, or signs up for all the movie channels...he's going to expect you to pay half whether or not you want the programming, right?).
