Eternabond success :-)

Thanks to those who have posted about Eternabond.  I resealed the seams on my 92 MB with the 4" white tape over the weekend and it seems to have worked very well.  A 50' role was just right for a 27' MB and I have a little left over to put in a bag for emergencies.  I still need to seal a couple of the hatches but I'm going to yank the swamp cooler and bathroom fan first and replace them with Fantastic Fans or maybe a skylight where the swamp cooler is and use an eternabond kit.  I'll buy a short roll to do the shower skylight and escape hatch.
I washed/scrubbed the whole roof with a TSP solution and then used acetone on the seams then applied the tape with scissors in hand.  It was a bit tricky getting around the mounts for the rear ladder on the back portion but not too bad.  Probably 2 hours start to finish.

Oh this is music to my ears.  When the temp drops below 100deg and we can get up on our roof we will begin to clean and seal out roof too.
I have heard you can buy the 50ft roll 4inch somewhere on line for $41.00 but have not turned that up in my search yet.  Best price I have seen is $56. plus shipping.

Anyone have the link for the $41.00 deal?

thanks

At least it worked for somebody... I had it done for the second time and the product failed miserably.
This product coming from the same RV products supplier. Yes it was done correctly (all photo documented) according to the Eternabond representative. Dealing with defective Etenabond twice, plus the labor of someone cleaning it all off and reinstalling it... I can't afford to take another chance on the product. I was not impressed with the stuff. I just found out that I had my credit information stolen making those purchases for the Eternabond products as well.
I'm not a happy camper:(

I resealed my roof with Eternabond with no problems and replaced the swamp cooler with MaxxFan since it has built

Yikes, what a terrible experience!  I can't help wondering if a previous owner did something to the surface of your roof that caused problems with adhesion.  There isn't such a thing as silicone paint, is there?

Oh Ellen - this is dreadful.  Of course you are not a happy camper.  I hope that picture changes soon.
Ellen - who did you purchase the defective Eternabond from?  We are looking on line now to buy it and start working on our roof.
I am guessing this is something you just buy once in a lifetime - so who have you other folks purchased from and how much did you pay for the roll?  Is there an expiration date?

According to post 102911, the second batch came directly from the Eternabond company after Ellen had explained her situation to them.
Many of us have purchased from Best Materials; last year, I paid $54 plus $11 shipping for a 50-foot roll.  Although Eternabond has an official shelf life of 5 years, it still seems prudent to purchase from a supplier with good turnover.

My 1986 LD has the original paint on the roof, no silicone stuff up there and has been regularly maintained.
There was some breakdown starting of the original sealant, so it was a good time to reseal.
I purchased two 4"X50' rolls from RV Upgrades @ $51.04 per roll as well as a Eternabond Vent installation kit @ $14.50 that I used to install the Fan-Tastic fan in my bathroom. The vent kit continues to have a good bond on the roof.
The roof was pressure washed and cleaned with a lacquer thinner, per advise from Eternabond.
It was allowed to thoroughly dry before application of the Eternabond product. The AC and swamp cooler was removed as well. The Eternabond was applied in a roll out as you go fashion so as not to make the Eternabond unwieldy to work with.
Yes, the release liner was removed as it was applied to the roof. Then a roller was used to apply pressure to start the bonding process.
The AC was cleaned and reinstalled as well as the swamp cooler. A few days later all the Eternabond started releasing on the edges creating very large air pockets. Not being sure what to do at this point, I ordered a 2"X50' roll from RV Upgrades @ $27.86 hoping to use it to patch things down. Never did use the 2" roll due to to the fact that it was really starting to be mess up on the roof of the LD with all the

Eternabond releasing.
I contacted Eternabond and provided them pictures and explanations... It was concluded that  that the siliconized release liner received an extra coating upon manufacturing and there was a silicone transfer. They shipped out two new rolls and instructions on removal of the Eternabond.
Due to my health, I hired someone to remove and reinstall the Eternabond.
The Eternabond that was still sticking was removed with a heat gun.
The roof was cleaned again per instruction from Eternabond and the Eternabond product that I received from the manufacturer was reapplied.
This time to get a bigger footprint on the seams... The two inch was used as well as the four inch roll. The two inch first and the four inch next to it overlapping by a 3/4" or so.
Remember where I bought the two inch? What are the odds of it being bad as well? Due to to the four inch overlapping the two inch, all of it needs to be redone again. The hot weather is not helping it stay on the roof either.
I documented the installation process and again contacted the manufacturer and they replaced the Eternabond. Having to pay someone to remove the product and to reinstall it all over again... Ugh!!!!!!! I don't think I will be using my new rolls of Eternabond.
My advise is... If you are going to use the product... Purchase it from the manufacturer... Etenabond! I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone else to have to endure.

Is the failing two-inch stuff on the inside, towards the center of the roof? Do you think it might be possible to just go across it with the new 4-inch stuff, as if it were a 2-inch strip of  some other failing caulk product?  That is, have two parallel 4-inch strips, thus avoiding another removal process?  This is just heartbreaking.

roof?>>
That would be a good Idea Joanne, but it is the outer edge that you see that is failing...
It was also suggested to make slits in the gaps that isn't sealing and overlapping them on themselves, but just like before, it wont stick to itself either.

For those (like me) who have ordered the Eternabond tape, but have yet to get around to finding the time to install it  . . . . it might be a good idea to cut small piece or two and test apply them to see if we have part of the "bad batch".
