Sooooo many screws!
Yahoo Message Number: 104872
My 84 LD is sitting in the yard waiting for a face lift while I scan and digest all the helpful info that is provided here on the forum.
In the meantime, several of my "bidders" has mentioned that ALL the screws should be removed and replaced.
I agree that when I look at The Daizy, the first thing that pops out are all the many screws - I mean they really stand out and it looks like an armored tank.
What's the general consensus there about removing them, or will the paint job "hide' them?

Thanks
Cathi

What is their reasoning for replacing them? Are they rusty? On my rig, we removed the rusty ones and replaced them. But they weren't all rusty, so left the ones that weren't. No reason to do more work than you have to. :)

"Our 5th wheel that we live in doesn't have nearly as many."
That's not surprising. One of the reasons Lazy Daze coaches are so strong and durable is that the factory uses more fasteners--inside and out--than any other manufacturer I've ever seen. So be glad that all those screws are there! :-)

Proof that Lazy Dazes are durable are these screen captures of a TV news story about an LD that got broadsided by an 18-wheeler in Ohio last month.
The owners are OK, their pets will be OK. The LD was a total loss but as you'll see the part that was not directly hit by the embedded truck stayed solid and true; the roof line is straight and the back window is unbroken (you can see the reflection of the back ladder). Most other trailers and motorhomes under those circumstances would have been reduced to scattered kindling.
Caution: these pix aren't for the fainthearted and will make you want to run outside and give  your LD a big hug.

I still don't understand.  Except at the corners, all of the seams on every LD I've seen are horizontal, not up and down.  So yes there are a lot of screws through the wrap-around molding at each corner -- and they were originally painted white.  But are you saying that there are screws up and down

Hello,

No screws in the sheet metal.
Four vertical wrap around moldings with double screws - plus the horizontal screws across and under the cab-over, then the horizontal screws at the top, all around.

Over 300 in all.
I didn't realize they were once painted white!  If they still had paint on them, it wouldn't be so noticeable.
I am guessing that our labor costs will continue to rise on the paint job when the shop comments that the rusted screws have to be replaced, and the others as well because there is dirt accumulated all around them that has to be cleaned off.

Hence, the question, should we replace all those screws?

Guess I answered it myself.
