Awing Brackets on Coach Body Snap June 14, 2009, 08:16:05 pm Yahoo Message Number: 103319Has anyone else had the brackets that hold the awning support arms to the coach body snap off when you tried to lift the top to fit the support arm in? Mine both did today on my 2007 MB. They seem to be corroded - from winter rain I assume - but it seems strange that something meant to be exposed to the elements would corrode and then break like that. I will call the factory tomorrow and order two new brackets but I was curious if this is just a problem specific to me or if anyone else had experienced it.Stephany Smith

For what it's worth, Stephany, I haven't heard of this happening to anyone else, and I'm astonished that those metal brackets (at least mine are metal) could fail in less than two years. Perhaps they came from a defective batch...? In any case, assuming you're the original owner of that rig, this should be covered under your lifetime warranty.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/
Update: Awing Brackets on Coach Body Snap Reply #2 – June 15, 2009, 06:27:07 pm Yahoo Message Number: 103342I talked with Bob at Fiamma (they make the awnings) He is sending me a new pair of coach body brackets at no charge. He said they have had some defective brackets show up which have been subject to corrosion as Andy suggested. The new pair he is sending has been treated for corrosion resistence. He also suggested periodically lifting the top of the bracket and spraying with WD40 Now my next question: what should I do to clean/treat the small amount of corrosion that is on the awning arm? Thanks for your helpStephany Smith
