Hi all,
My wife and I will be traveling to Central Ohio later in August.  We are planning on traveling along I70 through Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky and Ohio and were wondering if anyone out there could give us advise as to neat things to see on our trip and places to stay. We are planning on taking about 4 weeks to make a loop from our home in Wyoming to Scio, Ohio and back. Thinking of taking I70 out and I90 back.  We've been along the I90 route but never the southern one. We enjoy historical sites, nature areas and "local" flavor (Rick also likes to gamble).  Any advices is appreciated.

The Barbed Wire Museum in LaCrosse, KS. In St Louis, Gateway Arch, which also has riverboat restaurants, excursion boats, and I believe, casino boats. Grant's Farm in St Louis, where the Budweiser Clydesdales are, along with botanical gardens.
Geographical center of "south 48" is just north of I 70 in Kansas. If you don't mind a little side trip, Dodge City isn't far south of I70.
And if you do that, World's Largest Hand Dug Well is available for your viewing enjoyment in Greensburg Ks.
Ok, Kansas attractions aren't terribly exciting, but this IS Kansas, right? *g*

Enjoy,

Lee

Unfortunately, I-70 does not go through Kentucky. Right through the middle of Indiana.

Ellis, KS municipal campground. A fun spot to spend the night. Just a few blocks off I-70. Follow the signs. The town police officer swings by now & then to collect the camping fee. $10?? I think.
When you're driving through KS keep an eye out for the square stone fence posts. One thing lacking in KS is trees. In order to get fence posts the pioneers cut limestone into the shape of posts.

Have fun:

Ed

If you have any interest in aviation, plan a stop at the Air Force museum in Dayton, Ohio, just south of I-70. It pretty much has one of everything in military aviation from the Wright brothers on, and includes a number of retired Presidential aircraft as well. There are lots of Wright brothers historical sites in the area, too, including Huffman Prairie where they actually perfected their incredible flying machine. Also, I'm told that "The Wilds", located southeast of Zanesville at Cumberland, Ohio is very interesting. It's a 10,000 acre wild life preserve. Check the web at www.thewilds.org for more information. We've never been there but we're planning on taking our two young grandsons this summer on our way back home from Cedar Point.

And just east of Hayes in Victoria KS is a beautiful limestone church - if you like old buildings.  I've been told there are a lot of these churches in central Kansas, but I've never made the effort to research them and make a tour map for  myself.
