I can highly recommend Pink House BLM Recreation Area along the Clearwater River on US-12 just west of Orofino...full hookups for $18, or if you have one of the national passes, $9.
Idaho State Parks have a deal for any senior age 62 or older (whether or not you are an Idaho resident): at selected parks, you can camp for half-price Monday thru Thursday.  To get more information on which parks are included in this deal, go to the Idaho State Parks website, http://parksandrecreation.idaho.gov/.

I also recommend picking up (or sending for) the brochure, "RV Idaho" which contains a comprehensive list of RV parks and campgrounds in the state as well as the location of the dump stations.  You can order your free guide at http://www.rvidaho.org/.

Here are a couple of other websites that you may want to check out before your trip, too:

We're spending the summer in Idaho this year.  We've been finding as many free places as we can to camp (Sno Parks and Sportsman Access areas are a favorite), but we did stay at Pink House and are currently at Dent Acres Campground, a COE campground along the eastern shores of Dworshak Reservoir ($18 for full hookups or $9 if you have one of the national passes).

It's Idaho, we're full of great campgrounds and dispersed camping.  Need to know where in Idaho you'll be to be more helpful.

It's a "long" state so not sure if you are interested in any particular part of the state?  I'm from Boise so I'll give you some of the best campgrounds in this part of the state.  Ponderosa State Park in McCall and Redfish Lake Campground near Stanley are two of my favorites.  The downside is if you show up on the weekends and you may have trouble getting a spot.  Enjoy!

Redfish Lake Campground near Stanley

Can you help me pinpoint this campground?  We're going to be in Stanley next month for a family GTG and we're looking for someplace to stay nearby (we're the only ones in an RV...everyone else will be staying in a motel).
I know where Redfish Lake is, but I don't see any campground by the name of Redfish on it.  According to my Benchmark Idaho Atlas, the campgrounds surrounding Redfish Lake are Point, Glacier View, Outlet, Sandy Beach, Mt.
Heyburn, and Sockeye.  In addition, there are two campground on Little Redfish Lake, Chinook bay and Mountain View.  Is the map just not showing Redfish Campground?

Pat,
One favorite last (or first on the way home) stop on our way to (or from) Chicago when we take I-80 is Illini SP on the Illinois River right outside of Marselles, just a few miles from I-80.  We usually travel in Spring and/or Fall and always get a spot right on the river.  Fun to watch the river traffic from there.
Two state parks in Nebraska off I-80 that we like are Eugene I. Mahoney SP between Omaha and Lincoln right off I-80 at the East end of the state and Lake Ogallala SP near the West end. Not sure how crowded they get in July, but both are very nice in Spring and Fall.

Yes, you have listed the actual names of the campgrounds at Redfish Lake.  This is a very small area and any of the campgrounds are great.  One of the campgrounds doesn't allow RV's.  I believe it is "Point".
If for some reason, you can't get a spot in Redfish.  Sunny Gulch is also a nice little campground.  It's about 2 miles from Redfish and 5 miles from Stanley.
Be sure and take the boat ride Redfish Lake and do a little hike up canyon.  This is an awesome area.  Enjoy!

The Redfish Lake area itself is more "commercialized" (and crowded) than other locations in the NF. This "Forestcamping" link (with internal links) is only one of several that generally describe the area:

Good morning, Linda,

If you check my Excel POI list for the Western US states (downloadable from my Toad Hall web site), you'll find the coordinates for all but Glacier View and Sandy Beach included.  It includes one called Redfish Outlet; I don't know if that would the same as the Redfish CG you mention.  You can find info about Glacier View at: http://publiclands.org/home.php.  I'll be adding Glacier View to my list in the next revision.

If you actually get to any of those, let me know if the coordinates are incorrect - thanks.

Cheers,

Ted H.

Thanks for the link, Joan.  I'm aware of the Forest Camping website and we also have Coleman's Forest Service Campground Directory (sadly, no longer in publication).  There are several USFS campgrounds near Stanley, so I'm sure we'll find someplace to camp!

Linda, when you get farther up into north Idaho, don't forget the 3 Priest River COE campgrounds east of Sandpoint.  The first one (Springy Point) is the only one on the south side of the river and is close to Sandpoint.  The Mudhole is on the north side of the river closer to Oldtown.  And the one in the middle between Oldtown and Sandpoint is Riley Creek and this is the only one with electric.  They're cheap with the geezer card.  And you could spend a night or two at the Coeur d'Alene Casino and Resort (Highway 95 near Worley) for free parking and a great buffet for breakfast, lunch, or dinner plus an excellent golf course (not for free).
