Now that it might not rain again here for a day or so, I thought I might try to wash the "Moose." We picked up our 24' FD last July, and after the required 30 days treated her with 2180 A.S. Ultra Polymer Sealant from the factory. What I am looking for is advice about using some sort of soap to loosen the winter grime before we re-treat with the poly stuff. In older posts, I see a lot about using the California duster and only using cold clear water, but on our early spring trip to Texas and New mexico, we picked up a fair amount of road grime. There are a lot of car wash soaps that promise to float away the dirt and not harm the wax, but if possible, I'd like to hear from the voice(s) of experience. Thank you.

Gee Larry, You must live in the Pacific Northwest. (g) I used to use the polymer stuff also but concluded, there must be a better way? I have switched to the Simonize Ice clear polish system.
That includes Ice wash, paste wax, a liquid polish and detail spray.
Now I have a hard candy shell, with a soft chewy center! My 2006 MB is the red & maroon colors and isn't easy to maintain. If hindsight is 20/20 I would have gotten the desert sand color.
Since we are in Arizona 6 months out of the year, and if you wash your rig down there you better get the water drops off quick before they set up.
Here in Tacoma we don't have problems with water spotting for the other 6 months.
Just thought I'd give you another alternative that works great, with half the work.
Best, Jim Pappas

Thanks, Jim. I'll take a look at those products. We actually live in a high desert...Front Range Colorado...but we are having an unusually wet spring. We have the two tone brown paint which I thought might hold up to the elements as well as anything.

Larry, I have been using the Turtle Wax Wash and Wax for years and really notice it keeps the wax from washing away. Like any wax you need to do it more often than they say and the shine and protection does more good. Wax on Wax off as they say. John Leach, Prescott.

Thanks, John. I have used Turtle wax products on my cars and it seems to be good stuff. We went through Prescott last July. Kathy is always looking at small towns for future possible home ports, and Prescott is on the list. Of course so was Sedona the first time we went there in 1977. Too bad we didn't do something about it then! Are you the couple that Monti mentioned who are going to be in Monument this year? that's our home base as well.

I did go to a site and I learned that Finish Kare doesn't actually have their own site, at least according to a person that I talked with. I called the number on the bottle of 2180 that I got at the factory. I talked with a person who said they don't have a web site. She did sell me more of the 2180 stuff and a bottle of shampoo #118 so I'll try it and report back. Thanks.

Hi Joan,
Thank you. That's the site that I visited, but when I called the phone number on the bottle of 2180 that I bought at the Lazy Daze factory, I was asked the name of my company. Evidently, the web site is separate retail business entity. Next time I would probably just go there, although the prices and the shipping appear to be the same. I talked with a very nice person named Leda at the El Monte phone number if anyone else is interested. The main thing that I was interested in was their shampoo product, 118 SC. It sounds as though it will work for the occasional more thorough washing that I have in mind.
