Regular Fluids Vs. Synthetic

We own a 1994 TK on a Chevy chassis.  A Master Mechanic has advised to stay with regular transmission and rear-end fluids and not use synthetic.  His comment was "My advice is to follow dealer recommendations and not update to 21st century fluids synthetic fluids in a 15 year old vehicle...vehicle years are kind of like dog years...Going synthetic now with how many miles on the motor home is like putting an old man like myself on a new work-out program...I'll be great for the first month and then who knows what..."
Just wondering if anyone else every switched to Mobil 1, Royal Purple or Amsoil for tranny and rear end fluids and if so what was the result?  I'm loath to go counter to a Master Mechanic's advice but thought I'd get an opinion from the group if anyone has made the change.

Thanks.

Sounds like a reasonable recommendation. It will also save you a lot of money.
The major advantage of using synthetic ATF and gear lube is their ability to withstand high temperatures without rapid degrading.
As long as your cooling system is up to snuff, the transmission should not be overheating. Just make sure to periodically check the transmission's condition (color and smell) and the fluid level. Service it according to the owner's manual.
I installed a temperature gauge in our 1983 LD to monitor the trans temperature.
Our 2003 LD uses a ScanGauge to monitor the trans temperature.
In the rear axle, just use what the Factory calls for. Our 2003 LD calls for synthetic if used for towing.

While mine isn't as old as yours, I upgraded both the engine (Ford V-10) oil and transmission (Ford 4R100) to Mobil 1.  I did the engine at 30,000 miles and the transmission at 40,000 miles.  I'm now at about 45,000 miles and running great.  Transmission usually runs about 190 degrees (same as engine coolant) and has never gotten over 225 degrees (Scan Gage II) towing the Toyota RAV-4 up the mountain in 100 degree heat.  Mobil 1 oil is at Costco and oil plus ATF are at Wally World.
