Find where the wire from the shore power cord enters the power center (the box with the converter and fuses) and make the connection there. The shore power cord is cut and the Surge Guard is inserted at that point. The EMS-HW30C has a remote readout so the wire, for the readout, needs to be run up to where you want to mount the LED readout. BTW, this only protects the LD's wiring from shore power and not from the generator. Most of the Surge Converters I have installed or seen installed are done this way. The Surge Guard can be installed to include the generator but it is a major rewiring job.Larry

My Surge Guard was installed that way by Mike Sylvester, and I'm glad of it. In my humble opinion, the generator is almost as likely to produce surges or (especially) over/undervoltages as shore power is. If you're going to go to the trouble and expense of installing a surge/over/undervoltage protector of this type, it makes sense to do the job right and protect *all* 120VAC sources.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/
