If you like to walk the beach, South Beach can't be beat. The restrooms have showers which is a nice feature too. Newport is just a few minutes from Lincoln City.Dick

Mayne call in advance 541.764.2313 to ask for a "terrace" site. Sort of expensive at $30 or so, but fine private beach access. Cash only when we were there. A bit further south is Sea Perch at Yachats, similar price also nice private beach.John

We wandered up the entire coastline last year and found some neat places. If you take a look at our http://www.wxtoad.com/> web site you can find some pix and notes on all the CG's we visited, Just look under "Camping Info" in the menu on the left. Don't forget to check out the world's smallest harbor at Depoe Bay and the world's shortest river, the D River. Newport is a great place to wander around, with lots of seals/sea lions lounging around. No problem, take it slow and easy. You can do it! If any LDers will be on the Oregon coast this week, we will be at Ft Stevens Sunday night and Nehalem Bay SP Monday night on our way to the Northwest GTG at Champoeg SP near Newburg, OR. I live past Quilcene and it's a bit of a hike in one day from there. I could swing back to I-5 from Astoria, but as you know, the Hood Canal Bridge is closed, so I'd need to end up back on 101 headed north.Great to have this site - thanks for your help! Francine

It has many beautiful spots but much of the drive consists of weaving through small towns with narrow streets and few 55 MPH zones between towns. Don't try to rush it!Larry

We have crossed the Astoria bridge many times in our 2002 MB, which is wider that your 1985. It is not a white knuckle drive (unless the wind is blowing hard), but you need to be alert. It is like driving 55 MPH on a country road. It is straight and flat, except for the hump on the Astoria end. If you're not comfortable driving 55, just slow down to a comfortable speed. If you turn right on the Washington side, there is a rest area a short distance from the bridge. If you have cars backed up behind you, it's a great place to pull over and let them pass.
