Tortuga retires

Today -  Friday the 13th - is my birthday too!  Nice to know I share it with you Jeanne, Happy Birthday!   It's a time of big changes, this week we moved everything from our 2001 RB "Tortuga"  into our new house in Mérida on the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico.  Mimi and I have lived in Tortuga since we picked her up in Sept of 2001, it's been a long and glorious trip.  I will admit that we both cried when we took the first load of boxes to the house.
Then, we took another load and another load... I started to think that we had a bottomless Lazy Daze.  In spite of good intentions, stuff just piled up in back corners and we were shocked at how much there was on board.  We are cleaning her from head to toe and then putting back only what we need for a vacation rig.  We're hoping that Tortuga will have many more years of travels hauling a lighter load than she would have as a fulltimer. She has 106k miles even though she has hardly moved this last year while we were working on the house.  Now, we hope to make a lot of trips through Central America and back to the US at least one more time.
I joined this group a few months after it was formed so I could learn about Lazy Daze, it's been a fantastic place to hang out all these years and I feel like many of you were there for Tortuga's birth and all of her travels.  Plus, I've met so many wonderful friends here that I wanted to share this momentous occaion.  We're not selling Tortuga or putting her out to pasture, we will find her a safe place to stay between trips.    Right now she is out on our friends land near the beach, Mimi says she drove like a bouncing ball on the way out there.  She thought Tuga was going to grow wings and start flying.   She's been a fantastic home for us for 7 years, we've been in 5 countries and seen such incredible sights.  I hope we all have a lot more exploring to do in Tortuga.

Happy Retirement Tortuga, you are still a beautiful lady.

Oh Jonna and Mimi

I'm so happy and at the same time sad to hear this.

I know your adventure in the new beautiful house will be everything you want it to be.  You've done such a great job, it's truly spectacular.
I will remember all the god times in Tortuga and still have the hopes of meeting you on the road again.

Be well my friends and don't leave the forum!

Thank you for the birthday greeting, Jonna. I know you had a big day too.
Thank you also for sharing your life and times with your Tortuga. I've been reading your adventures since you and Mimi began your Lazy Daze travels. I've enjoyed them all and I've learned so much about traveling SOB and being an LD owner. Thanks for sharing your lives!

Sincerely,

Jeanne Gearing

Hi Jonna and Mimi,

Wow finally.  Congrats on the new house and big changes.  I wish you two the best.  What a story you have written.
If you ever need any work on Tortuga I'll come for room, board and a few hours on the beach.  Lol.
