Keys Beaches

Key Colony Beach was our second home for many years (in the before-LD days)...two things to keep in mind (and neither is a showstopper):

1.  No beach (Oceanside or Bayside) will be a fast drop off...you will  have to walk out in water up to your knees for a long time...but it's  a great walk.

2.  DO wear watershoes...in addition to the sea urchins there are rays
which sun in the shallow water and you can easily step on the barbed tail before you see them...and they will just fly away if they spot you first.  Also in the water and in the sand, the pretty hazard of broken glass.
One of our first trips to the Keys was to stay on Little Palm Island for a week and one of the things we did was to take a snorkel trip to Looe Key...it was mesmerizing and never did an hour pass so fast in my life as the one I spent there.
The Keys are just fabulous and very funky.  One casual restaurant pick (if it's still good...check before you go) in Marathon is The Keys Fisheries.  It's Bayside and a fishmarket in front and a big open air restaurant out back.  Lots of fun with great fresh fish, generous portions and reasonable prices.

You've been given some great (super) info on each Key and beaches...enjoy them all!
