Frozen black tank

I have some frozen waste in my black tank.  I tried to thaw it with hot water thru toilet...no good.  Black tank is almost full.  I can't go south for 4 weeks and now everything will freeze solid.  Do I have to worry about the tank bursting?  How long in warm weather (let's say 55) does it take to thaw?

Try dumping a gallon of RV antifreeze down the toilet.  It's about 4.00 a gallon at walmart.  Might get it liquid enough to dump.

Can't answer your question. However, you might consider draping a blanket or tarp around the outside edges of your tank so the covering drapes down to the ground. Then put an electric heater (cube type with fan, not a radiant heater for fire concerns) under the tank. That should have it defrosted in short order.

Bob, I had this happen in Monument, Col. just before we took off a month ago. I drove over 5o miles in sunny weather but on the cold side. It finally thawed and I was able to dump. Being that you will be there 4 weeks. You may want to put a light bulb beneath the area and leave it on closeby. I tried the antifreeze bit and it may have helped but better weather and some warmth underneath should help. Good luck, john leach
