Damaged Furnace Thermostat Base Plate November 05, 2008, 06:09:03 am Yahoo Message Number: 97078The thermostat cover on my 2004, 26.5 MB furnace was accidentally struck and the left-top hook on the base plate, from which the cover hangs, was broken off. Is there any alternative to ordering a new thermostat from LD? I thought I had read here of a digital replacement that everyone liked. Thanks for any replies.Paul NE 50

Works great. Got it from Home Depot but is available all over. It will help to move that mag rack over slightly to give you more room. 4 screws. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WEKNOW Joe Hamm-San Jose As an Amazon Associate Lazy Daze Owners' Group earns from qualifying purchases.

Now if I can install it without screwing it up (like losing a wire in the wall) my spouse and I will be able to improve on our current chilly relationship. Thanks gratefully for the replies.Paul
Re: Damaged Furnace Thermostat Base Plate Reply #5 – November 06, 2008, 02:18:32 pm Yahoo Message Number: 97101Quote snipped Thanks for any replies.Paul NE 50 I finished the installation of the Honeywell digital thermostat a few minutes ago and thought I'd pass along a few notes.1. It looks and works great. One caveat - I located the base plate midway between the molding and magazine rack, leaving precious little space for my tiny finger to reach the operating switches, i.e Off, Heat, Run, Auto which are on the side of the thermostat. I would not have had much room to shift it to the left without exposing the old thermostat right-hand mounting hole.2. While attaching the wires to the base plate connectors the wall furnace fan started to run! I was only able to turn it off by pulling the fuse. Whoa! I had purchased the battery disconnect switch which I turned to OFF, believing that this action would shut off all power to my rig. Not so! I talked with Vince at LD and he said that because I had purchased a solar panel it would also and separately power the rig. I thought its sole function was to charge the house batteries. He said I could have pulled the solar fuse and/or the wall furnace fuse to kill the power. I suppose that if I ever did want to kill all the power to the rig I could turn the battery switch off and pull the solar fuse. Interesting. In four years I had never operated that battery disconnect switch.3. I had to purchase a $2 set of screwdrivers at Walgreen because every screwdriver I owned was too big to fit the very tiny screws in the new thermostat.Paul NE 50

Move it just enough to still cover up the original holes and give you some room. Otherwise, you need a pair of tweezers or wife with small fingers. Joe
