Well, I may have to take back my earlier report (Msg. 3954) "The Wagon Master's relatively new Allison transmission went out and parts had to be flown in from the US, but the repair was made in Nicaragua with no problem."

On the way to San Isidro from San Jose yesterday, while crossing a 11,000+ foot pass, the Wagon Master's newly repaired transmission failed completely, with no forware or reverse power.  Two of the diesal pickup campers had to tow him and his trailer with a heavy duty tow strap up the hill to get him to the top where he could get off the narrow highway.  It took two because the first one started overheating after a while.
We proceeded to San Isidro on our own while the Wagon Master and Tail Gunner sorted our his problems.  The final decision was to call a large tow truck out of San Jose to come and tow him and his trailer back to San Jose where he will try to get it fixed during the 9 days before we come back to San Jose from Panama.  Meanwhile the tail gunner is now the Wagon Master pro tem.  The repaired transmission has a 120,000 mile guarantee, but that is in Managua, Nicaragua, so we'll see how it works out.
Meanwhile we are are spending the day parked near a hotel and have a free day.  We plan to get propane and gasoline before crossing into Panama in the morning (Tuesday).  We also can use the pool and internet of the hotel.  We are parked on a beautiful green soccer field associated with the hotel.  Last night we sat in the LD and watched kids playing soccer on the part of the field we weren't using.
