Pro-Fill vs. Turkey Baster

I am about to replace the house batteries on our 2002 30IB. The original batteries had quit holding their charge last fall right before I was putting the LD into storage. The mechanic's who were going to do the winterization went to add electrolyte to the batteries to see if that would help to hold the charge. They noticed that one cell was empty of water and the rest ok. They had installed the Pro-fill about a year and a half ago and it seemed to work fine.
I am thinking of returning to the turkey baster and dip-stick method of maintaining the water level. I had marked some medical tongue suppressors for the dip-stick and they are easy to use. I have more confidence in a system that I can see the results.
The price of the T-105's here in NY State are $160.00 (there is only one Trojan master distributor for the whole state), other brands of batteries at RV dealers in my area are Exide and Deka.  I have also printed out Chris Horst guide to changing batteries.

Any comments on this project would be appreciated.

Any idea why the Pro-Fill did not work properly for that cell?
