The Mercedes Sprinter is all Mercedes. It has been in Europe for many years and used primarily as a delivery van or passenger transport.
 The story goes, that the CEO of Fedex was on a trip to Europe and saw them and made it known that he wanted them for use in the US. At first, they were imported by Freightliner and only sold to commercial accounts like Fedex and UPS. Then, when MB and Chrysler got together they decided to replace the existing Ram van with the Sprinter and sell it under the Dodge brand to everyone.

Now, the RV market has embraced the platform and is using it for conversion to motorhomes.

I looked at them, they have a 4wd option in Europe that I really wanted.  They are OK, very narrow and with the high roof (which is needed for RV's) can be top heavy. I know of one guy who had one, not an RV, but with the high roof and he rolled it in a high wind situation on I-15.

I don't think that is quite correct I believe the complete vehicle is built by MB and a few are sold by Freightliner and the rest by Dodge in this country. The van is sold around the world and has been for several years.
