Need help installing cab-over window covers January 23, 2008, 04:25:50 pm Yahoo Message Number: 88747OK...I've got the covers for our 2007 LD. The vent/emergency exit cover was a snap (pun intended). But I need help installing the covers for the side windows up there. 1. How do I remove the existing window curtains so I can work on screwing in the fasteners? With limited head room and light I can't get my trifocals focused well enough up there to see what the heck is going on! [Any comedy writers on strike who happen to read this: there has to be a great sketch in this setting!] 2. Once I figure out how to get the curtain out...and the right location to screw in the fasteners...and then get the curtain back in...is the insulating cover meant to be placed OVER the existing curtain when I want to use it? It can't be, can it? Or is it assumed that you will remove the curtains each time you snap in the covers? Some of you must have been through this and figured it out. Help a poor newbie find the way! I checked Andy's Eureka! but he took care the windows up there a whole different way. We'd like to have the windows usable in warm weather, and to be able to close the normal curtains for privacy, AND insulate during cold weather. What's the trick?

Just open as wide as you can and install in the upper corners. I agree that there is not much room to work. Curtains do not fit back over as I recall. I just use these pads for winter insulation. I just have bifocals. Joe Hamm-2003 MB
Re: Need help installing cab-over window covers Reply #2 – January 23, 2008, 04:56:02 pm Yahoo Message Number: 88751Richard, On my 2004 LD I installed those covers without removing the curtains. As I recall, I did need to hold them out of the way while I drilled the pilot holes in a couple of places but it wasn't too difficult. They do go under the curtains and you need the snaps placed where you can install them with the curtains in place. Now when I put them on I need to slide the covers up under the curtains to reach the snap but everything fits just fine. I also had "bifocal" issues but in those situations my solution is to remove my glasses so I can focus on those close up details.MontiMonument, CO

Re: Need help installing cab-over window covers Reply #4 – January 23, 2008, 06:39:45 pm Yahoo Message Number: 88757Quote Hi Richard, The overhead cab curtains in the 2007 are hung different than in earlier models. So advice from folks with earlier models may or may not be applicable in your situation. I do not know the specifics of how the 2007 curtain track works, but somebody out there does.Happy trails, Terry Tanner Yes, Terry, the way our curtains are hung will not work with some of the suggestions. Our curtains don't use hooks. They have guides that run in a track that goes the complete width of the window. So there is no way to slide anything "under" the curtains. Dick

Re: Need help installing cab-over window covers Reply #7 – January 24, 2008, 06:27:06 pm Yahoo Message Number: 88789OK, FOLD, I got the covers installed. Joe and Monti and others were right that the cover should fit under the existing curtains. In fact the top edge of the cover can fit right up snug to the underside of the track that the regular curtains run on. It was a bit of a challenge to know the exact spot to drill for the "male" end of the snap fastener, and since I'm not really the handyman type I had no vast experience to draw from. So I decided to put a piece of old sponge in the "female" end of the fastener on the cover, inked it with a red gel pen and pushed the cover fastener where I thought it ought to go..."stamping" a nice red dot where I needed to drill. Worked pretty well! Thanks for your help! Dick
Re: Was cab-over window covers/ Now close-up work wearing glasses Reply #8 – January 25, 2008, 01:13:41 am Yahoo Message Number: 88804Dick, I was glad to read you got the window covers installed. I haven't had to do that, but for other close-up work or work that is is above your eye level that is almost impossible when wearing bifocals or trifocals, try adding a pair of cheap full-frame reading glasses from the drug store. Find a pair that magnifies to the degree you need, and that fit over your regular glasses. Or, depending on the degree of correction of your regular glasses, you may be able to use the reading glasses by themselves. They need to be full, rather than "half-frames" or "granny glasses", since the problem is in the small area of correction in your prescription multifocal lenses. I always keep a pair of these cheapies in the LD for just this kind of occasion.Sharon N.

Re: Need help installing cab-over window covers Reply #10 – February 01, 2008, 12:41:31 pm Yahoo Message Number: 89078I share your pain! I have a 2007 RK.I crawled up there in my underwear, (it was 70 degrees in Alabama that morning,) without my glasses, armed only with a small drill, a pencil, a Petzl light, and a screwdriver, (but only after having successfully installed all the easy covers on the hatch, living area, kitchen and bath.) After writihng around like a contortionist for several minutes, I used the cover itself as a template of sorts, eye-balling it, and I left the curtain in its track, but managed to force the fabric to the side long enough to drill the holes and screw down the snaps. The covers are between the fabric and the wall. I don't ever intend on removing those covers again! There is no telling how long I stayed up there accomplishing this feat, which serves me as yet another reminder of why I became a psychologist and not an engineer! Took me four ibufrofen and a bottle of Crown Royal to calm down afterward. - MikeRichard Clark clarkie46@...> wrote: OK...I've got the covers for our 2007 LD. Glad you finally calmed down. I don't recall that there was an option of having these covers already installed at the factory, was there? If not, we know why! They just couldn't afford to have workers calming down with Crown Royal! Enjoy a job finally done! Dick
