any one going to Quartzite?

We're leaving in a few days for our annual trip to Quartzite and were wondering if any other Lazy Daze owners are going and where they will be?  We have an 84 that we love.  Jeri and Ted Seal Beach CA

I'll be at La Posa West on Friday (that's the LTVA area closest to the 'Big Tent') although I will be camping about a 1/2 mile south of the tent (less congested)

Oh that sounds like so much FUN!  Is there a website where they show pictures of all the rigs and list the activities going on?  Is it true that up to a million people descend on the BLM land and boondock?  What is the honey wagon cost?  Is it just January to April?  What a party!  Now that is a cultural phenomenon

***** Here is a picture of the area around the Big Tent: http://www.quartzsitervshow.com/qz_aerials.htm .

Here is a map showing all the BLM areas around Quartzsite, both free and fee: http://www.telusplanet.net/public/waters/mapc.htm> .

Here is a calendar of events: http://www.quartzsitebusinesschamber.com/calendar.html .

***** There are estimates that during the season from October through March, 1.5 million people come through Quartzsite, probably the majority of those during January when all the main shows are going on.  All of these people aren't parked out on BLM land, but there are thousands, if not tens of thousands of people who do.  And then there are all the RV parks in Quartzsite, which probably has more RV parks per capita that almost any place in the U.S.

What is the honey wagon cost?
***** Not ever having used one, I'm not sure, but I know it's expensive...$15, $20, maybe more.  There are places in town to dump, take on fresh water, and propane.  The Pit Stop north of Main Street on the east side of AZ-95 is one such place.  It'll be very busy in January, but they have a pretty good system set up to get people in an out as quickly as possible.  And, of course, if you've paid your money to stay in one of the LTVAs, there is fresh water and a dump available there.

***** While the main bulk of the shows happens in January, the season extends from October through March, although by the end of March, Quartzsite is pretty bare.  There are a few vendors who stay all year long, such as The Main Event.  A few vendors start showing up in October, and by the end of December, most of the vendors who are going to be there are already set up (with the exception, of course, of the big RV Show under the Big Tent which doesn't get set up until sometime in January).

Thanks for the great info, Linda!

I thought this was cute on the Quartzsite Calendar of Events: "The La-Z-Daze Quartzsite Classic Horseshoe Tournament"
We did use the honey wagon at the Balloon Fiesta and thankfully there were helpful LD guys who taught us to make sure the toilet valve is open when the honey wagon pumps out the tank.  They had one of my kids hold down the pedal so the pumping didn't damage the system.
Good to remember!

I thought this link was also interesting: http://www.outwestnewspaper.com/rules.html

Do people really move after 14 days outside the 25 mile radius?

Anyway, I think that is fascinating.  Thanks for the info,

Sorry, missed this question the first time!

While you're supposed to move 25 miles after 14 days, that's pretty difficult to do in Quartzsite since none of the free BLM areas around Q are more than 25 miles apart from each other.

I imagine there are people who move from one free BLM area to another...there are so many people parked out in the desert during the winter season, it would be nearly impossible for a Ranger to check on everyone.  Most of the areas have a "camp host" -- I don't know how vigilant they are in making sure everyone stays just 14 days though since each area is large with lots of rigs parked on them.
That is the one advantage of the LTVAs: Once set up, you don't have to move.
You could stay the entire season in one place if you wanted (9/15 through 4/15 for $180).

This place??

Yes, that would be the place, Larry!
It's located south of I-10 at Exit 19 on the west side of Riggles Ave.
By the way, I came across this listing of RV parks in and around Quartzsite: http://www.quartzsitebusinesschamber.com/camp.htm .  If you scroll down, it also gives directions to all the BLM areas around Q, both free and fee.
I don't know if this list is a complete list of ALL the RV parks in and around Q, but it's pretty extensive.  Many/most of these parks you'll never find in any directory.

Linda, New to this group and not up on my acronymns.  What is a LTVA?

Robbie, I know you said you found it, but perhaps there are other people who don't know what it means.
It stands for Long Term Visitor's Area, and is a BLM area that allows for stay longer than 14 days.  The LTVAs in Arizona and California (more or less along the Colorado River) cost $40 for 14 days or $180 for a 7-month season (9/15 through 4/15).  Here's the Arizona BLM website that describes the 4 LTVAs at Quartzsite: http://www.blm.gov/az/outrec/camping/laposa.htm

Happy New Year everyone!
We're planning to go to Quartzite RV show for the first time this year.
I know it's a wild and crowded place but that's what makes it interesting right?
I'm wondering who else is going? Where do the Lazy Dazers camp? We'd love to see you. We'll probably arrive late Thursday the 15th and leave on Monday since it's a holiday. My parents (

North/16th street, you will find a COSTCO on your Left. This COSTCO also has a gas station.

There is no Costco in Yuma...it's a Sam's Club.

If you are traveling I-10 from Los Angeles. The best place to refuel is just inside the Arizona stateline in Ehrenberg, AZ, which is about 10-15 miles from Quartzsite.  Recommend you check http://gasbuddy.com/ for the latest fuel prices while traveling.

The Flying J at Exit 1 *usually* is a few cents less expensive than the Pilot's or Love's in Q.  However, it is also extremely busy meaning long wait times.  We prefer filling up in Q because the lines usually aren't as long.  Of course, come the time of the RV Show, all bets are off! ;-)

site, because once inside this BLM perimeter, you can work your way up to the back of Harris Ranch.

Do you mean Rice Ranch?  I've never heard of a Harris Ranch in Q.  If you do mean Rice Ranch, I'd think La Posa North would be closer to it than La Posa South since it's farther north, closer to Q.
Here's a link that gives the directions of all the BLM land surrounding Q, both free and fee: http://www.goldledge.com/features/docs_html/qblm_camping.html
